Not Feeling It Today...

The news is depressing.

I'm dealing with a summer cold, sore throat, no energy.

Gotta get some work done.

I'll be about lurking and post if I find something good.

I realize it's bad and I need to call the Dr. for a checkup since I haven't wanted a beer in 3-4 days.

Obama still sucks.

A Reader's Request Leads To An Internet Trip To Waiheke Island, New Zealand...

...at least thats where it ended. If any of my readers are in New Zealand and can verify this I would appreciate it.

Last night I got an email from reader Rob T. asking about my header picture. Back on Tuesday I was scrolling  through some various wallpapers that I found while searching for the term "Blue Sky Wallpaper".

This picture with the bench was one that I liked and decided to put up for a few days. The weather here has been gorgeous and it kinda represented the blue sky sunshine that was outside my shop.
It also looked like a great place to sit and take a break from the world.

Anyway, when I got the email from Rob I decided to see if I could find the original image and the place the picture taken.  I re-did my search and found the original picture >HERE<.  It's the second picture in the second row.

I then did an image search for similar images and came up with >THESE<  images of which there are 14,500 to choose from.

Being up early this morning and enjoying a good challenge I started scrolling through the pictures and hovering my mouse over various ones to see what the URL was. Most of them yielded various wallpaper sites from all over the world. I just keep going and moved down the page.

I guess I got lucky on page two or three when I came upon this link on one of the pictures

>HERE<

This is the flickr page of Chris Gin whom I believe is the photographer of the picture! :)

This is the description:

The Lookout

This is Kennedy Point Reserve, Waiheke Island.
I went to this small reserve shortly after arriving on the island, scouting for potential sunset locations. I came away a bit disappointed due to the lack of rocks or anything else interesting on the beach.
As I walked back up the hill to my car, I sat down on the grass next to this bench to have a bit of a rest (hey it was a hot day and the hill is steeper than it looks!). As I looked out towards the sea I realised what an amazing view it was right there and then! I unpacked my gear and took a few snaps while still sitting on the grass. I'm glad I did because this turned out to be one of my favourite shots.
I decided to make this an HDR (3 exposures; -2, 0, +2) to really bring out the green and blue. Hope you like it.

Here are some screenshots of the location from the map in the upper right hand corner of the Flickr page:

If I have any New Zealand readers that can verify this I would love to hear from you.

One of My Readers Decides to Unload Both Barrels

For once in his entire life upon this planet, I wish Obama would grow a set of effen balls except sucking on them. I am so tired of this traitor and what we have allowed to happen to this country. I am tired of the House and Senate giving him a free pass. I am outraged by the press. I am sickened to see what my beloved county has turned into - a third world nation. I am disgusted by my blind fellow 'gimmie' citizens. I am just so damn tired of all the shit. Where is the backbone of this country? My God, our nation is about to die and no one gives a damn. Talk, talk, talk that's all everybody does. No one in Washington that can make a difference wants to take a stand - it might offend someone. Who in Washington has what it takes to make us good again? Hello? Anybody? What does the average person do? Do we have to march by the millions on Washington? Tar and feather the bunch? What? The world is laughing and gloating and we still do nothing. Absolutely nothing. Except watch our liberties and our Constitution be taken away day after day after day. What are we going to leave our children? A broken, sad, poor place that was once the greatest country on earth. May God forgive us.

When The Music Stops..... A Must Read

Reader Scott B left a comment on an earlier post and was looking for this:

This was posted at WRSA back on the 3rd of Sept. Nobody knows what or if any of this will happen but given the situation we find ourselves in today of course this is possible. Sooner or later we are going to run out of money or inflation will skyrocket prices making it even more than likely that rioting will occur. If you think about how our society has been slowly devolving we are going to see some form of the the following one way or another.

What if a cascading economic crisis, even a temporary one, leads to millions of EBT (electronic benefit transfer) cards flashing nothing but zeroes? Or if the government’s refusal to reimburse them causes supermarket chains to stop accepting them for payment? The government can order the supermarkets to honor the cards, but history’s verdict is clear: If suppliers are paid only with worthless scrip or blinking digits, the food will stop.

Does This Make Any Sense? Anyone ? Anyone? Bueller?

The iPhone 5, which Apple Inc. plans to release this week, could get credit for something Congress, the White House and Federal Reserve have struggled to do: boosting the U.S. economy in a measurable way.

From HERE

So what I get from the article is that they are hoping the GDP will grow due to cell phone sales in the last quarter.

What is going to help it in the following quarter or the quarter after that?

What happens if people can't afford the phones?

They are really thinking that selling iPhones is going to help.

Now some other thoughts.

What do cell phones add to the economy?

Great, Billy can text Mary, or you can check the weather, or you can sext your boyfriend, but they don't really add any value to the economy. They are a luxury and usually an expensive monthly bill the really doesn't generate anything but costs. Yes, I understand some people can use them in their business dealings but what percentage are just mindless drones that have to have the latest materials so they can tweet that they are taking a shit?

Forest City Gear Machined The Gears On "Curiosity".. Worth Watching

Watch the video... what a great story......

When Forest City Gear first aspired to be world-class gear manufacturers, they couldn’t have imagined that someday they would surpass that boundary. Perhaps universe-class best describes them now? With one rover mission under their belts, and now with over 75 of their gears currently on Mars in the highly anticipated Curiosity rover, those original aspirations have been surpassed.

Founded by husband and wife Stetler and Evelyn Young in 1955, Forest City Gear is a family-owned company in Roscoe, Illinois. Their son Fred Young is now CEO, but he grew up watching his parents work hard and re-invest their profits in the company — this is how they are so successful. By the late ‘60s, the company was purchasing at least one new gear machine a year. By re-investing 25-40% of company profit back into itself, Forest City Gear has developed a reputation of being one of the best gear companies in this universe.

In addition to equipment, the Young family invests in its employees, creating a devoted workforce. “We believe we have one of the best equipped gear shops in the world. This includes both equipment and employees, a legacy of Forest City Gear for over 50 years,” according to Fred Young. When Fred speaks to prospective employees, he does not offer them a job. He offers them a career.

What might be more remarkable than creating crucial equipment destined for Mars? For a second time? Well, creating a thriving motivated company culture with a team of career employees—the kind who lie in bed at night thinking, “what can I do in the morning when I get there?” The kind who take on responsibility, impose their own high standards and like Amy Sovina, have the “mindset something I touched is now on the surface of Mars.”

By creating an atmosphere of excellence and pride, Forest City Gear has created a legacy for its individuals, its employees and its future.

We should all be proud of their accomplishments as they are a small shop who's reputation the world over is one of excellence. Our region benefits by association, and by the generosity of their spirit.

One of Those Days....Over and Over and Over....

How would you respond to this liberal rant I got in an email?

While I am retired, I have received a 30 day free membership to a gym.  My elliptical is once again stuck in front of Fox News and, although I try not to focus on it, I find it so disturbing.

I cannot watch 10 minutes of Republican based television without seeing obvious and blatant lies.  They lie so much, how stupid are Americans to believe this propaganda?  It's like watching Nazi television in the height of the Third Reich.

Again, I am not a Democrat.  I have an open, intelligent mind, and am an engineer (retired).  I could never lie about the experiment data and test data.  I believe in honesty and integrity.  The Republican speeches, adds, comments, since the Bush era are so filled with lies that it is embarrassing to be an American and have this watched by the world.

We used to have journalism with integrity, now the Republican party and its affiliates such as Fox News live in the world of the Tabloids.

And they talk about Family Values?

This is not how we will fix this country.  I don't respect liars.  Especially liars, who once the truth is know cannot apologize.

Being a Republican means you never have to say you are sorry.

This just has to stop.  Bullshit in politics is not new, but a news agency constantly barraging the American people with obvious lies meant to belittle anyone who is not on their side?????

Is this happening because the print media is disappearing, and now everyone gets their news from unnamed sources on the intranet?

Is there a Democratic version of Fox News that dedicates it's time to criticizing anything and everything Democrats do, with any and all means, including constant lying?  Really?

OK, rant over.

Insomnia Cause??

More and more people are taking their tablets to bed with them to surf the web, check Facebook or email before switching off the light.
But researchers are warning that the blueish light their screens emit can stop users getting a good night’s sleep.
That is because this type of light mimics daylight, convincing the brain that it is still daytime.
Blue light suppresses production of a brain chemical called melatonin, which helps us fall sleep. This is because our brains have evolved to be wakeful during daylight hours.
By contrast, light which is more orange or red in tone does not suppress melatonin production, perhaps because our brains recognise it as a cue that the day is ending.

Do I Have Any Readers In The Austin, Killeen Tx Area?

My good buddy "Pitdogga" is heading down that way on business for the week and I wanted to get him some recommendations on restaurants and maybe sites to see if he has some time. I'm pretty sure he is in the air as I write this so he should be there just after lunch. He's flying into Austin and then heading to Killeen.

Any input would be much appreciated!

Thanks
