Life distances and time... at 56 years...

I got to thinking, as I do sometimes, about how many miles I have traveled and now much
time I spent traveling. In the past, on some of my year end birthday posts I've posted how many miles this body has gone in reference to space and the amount of time I have spent here.

Engineer's minds think like to contemplate this shit sometimes when we are bored.

So, with the help of google and the magic of math here we go:

56 years time:

672 months
2922 weeks
20,455 days
490,920 hours
29,455,200 minutes
1,767,312,000 seconds

56 years distance:

Being in the northeast, I picked an average for 45 degree latitude and figured the circumference of the earth at that point. I have been revolving around the earth's axis once a day for 20,455 days. The rotation speed of  the earth here approx 800mph and in 24 hour time the distance traveled is 17,677 miles. So, I have traveled 361,583,035 miles.

     Now the fun starts.

The earth travels around the sun a distance of  584,000,000 miles per year
at a speed of  67,000 mph.  Therefore, I have traveled 56 x 584million miles for a grand total of
32,704,000,000 miles around the sun. Wish I had a penny for each mile.

and finally:

Our solar system is traveling through space around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy.
We are speeding along at 514,000 mph.

So I have been here for 490,920 hours traveling at a speed of  514,000 mph for a total distance of  252,322,880,000 miles (yes, trillion)

slightly over 10 times the national debt!!

One last thing I looked up. Even going at 514,000 MPH it would take 230,000,000 years for our
solar system to go once around the center of our galaxy. Math is done.

Happy New Years one and all. Thanks for stopping by...

Slainte!

All the best,

How To Tell When Christmas Has Ended...

Time to "Pull" the tree....

Why aren't "theirs" referred to as ASSAULT WEAPONS?

That is just one question I would like to ask about .gov agencies (i.e. "the infernal revnue service") having small arsenals of weapons at their disposal along with the fact that these same agencies are "STOCKPILING" (another media buzz word normally used to demonize gun owners who have more than a couple of boxes of ammo) massive amounts of ammunition. According to the GAO audit, at the end of 2017 the IRS had 4,487 "guns" and 5,062,006 rounds of ammunition. The article goes on to state that 15 of the guns are "fully automatic". DHS had 194 full autos by the way. Then the article goes on to mention that in addition to guns and ammo the EPA had "silencers" in their storehouses. Why would the Environmental Protection Agency or any other .gov agency need suppressors? It could be they fear retaliation from someone they have driven out of business because the owner contributed to the RNC, or the owner "violated" some silly made up regulation. It could be the .gov agency is afraid a family member of some farmer whose property was confiscated after the "agency" determined said property to be "wetlands" might want a little "payback".  Read the entire article HERE.

"Small Town (County)" Christmas Eve Night/Santa Tracking

Living in a rural laid-back setting has many benefits. One that I, many other adults, and children in our area enjoy is listening to the "Santa reports" on Christmas Eve Night and getting to see the reaction of "younguns". Three fourths of the small rural county in which I live is owned by the USDA (National Forest Service). There are five small towns with a total population of less than 24,000. The largest town has less than 4,000 people. The next in line is the county seat and it has just over a thousand people. In this county there might be six deputies and the sheriff along with a probably less than 20 "municipal policemen" total. There isn't a lot of crime and we have good lawmen for the most part. In fact it is so laid back on most Christmas Eve Nights that these lawmen, along with Sheriff's dispatch have time to pass along "Santa reports" to all the children who might be listening on scanners, volunteer FD radios, etc. This isn't one of the better sound bytes, but it is a pretty generic sample from Monday night.

Nice Buck

My neighbors son killed this nice  buck over the Christmas weekend. I don't yet know what it scored or weighed, but will update this post when I do find out. I have hunted many years with this boy's father and have watched him grow into a fine hunter of turkey and deer. They have some local land leased and do an excellent job managing it as you can see in this photo.
