TFIF!!! 34,456,000,000 miles traveled around the sun...
Today I made it 59 years. As many have said, it seems to go faster as you get older.
Where did it all go?
I've seen lots of technology changes, lived with the best music of
my youth, and won and lost many a hand at the card table of "life".
Today, the last day of 2021 is cold and overcast gray skies here at the bunker.
Kind of fitting for the way the past few years have been.
I got my things to do during the day, yes there will be a FFFF coming up,
and then a small celebration of the New Year. ( If I'm not in bed before midnight :))
The past is gone other than memories , and the future is unknown.
Some plans come to fruition and others need tweaking as the clock ticks forward.
This always plays in my head.....

Bleak Christmas...
I was out most of the morning running errands and getting shit done. It really
doesn't feel like Christmas Eve is two days away.
Very minimal decorations to be seen and just a general malaise in the air is the

(CNN) — The coronavirus will hit millions of Americans in a “viral blizzard” within a few weeks as infections from the Omicron variant pile on top of Delta, an expert predicts.
Already, hospitalizations are rising as the holiday season gets into full swing. Long lines for Covid-19 testing formed Thursday in metro areas, including New York, Boston and Miami.
The Delta variant remains a problem. And Omicron, with its high transmissibility, could strike millions more soon, said Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
“We’re really just about to experience a viral blizzard,” Osterholm told CNN’s Erin Burnett on Thursday. “In the next three to eight weeks, we’re going to see millions of Americans are going to be infected with this virus, and that will be overlaid on top of Delta, and we’re not yet sure exactly how that’s going to work out.”
Omicron will cause a serious strain on the health care system as more workers will likely get sick, Osterholm said, even though most cases from Omicron seem to be mild.
“What you have here right now is a potential perfect storm,” Osterholm said. “I’ve been very concerned about the fact that we could easily see a quarter or a third of our health care workers quickly becoming cases themselves.”
Other signs include:
- New Orleans says it will require kids ages 5 to 11 be vaccinated before entering public schools, restaurants and other businesses.
- Colleges and universities are returning to online learning.
- Sports leagues are postponing games due to players testing positive.
- Broadway shows are canceling performances.
Andy Slavitt, a former senior pandemic adviser to President Joe Biden, said that while tools such as vaccines are now available rather than during last winter’s surge, “a very rough January” lies ahead due to Omicron.
“For the health care workers, the hospitals, for people who are sick, even sick with things other than Covid, that represents a real danger and a real threat,” Slavitt told CNN’s Don Lemon on Thursday.
Two indicators are up about 40 percent in the last month, according to data from Johns Hopkins University: the seven-day average of new cases topped 120,000; and the total number of hospitalizations stands at more than 68,000.
The seven-day average for deaths was 1,286 as of Thursday, an 8% increase from a month ago, the data show.
Getting vaccinated or boosted remains key as millions of Americans get ready for holiday travel.
Recent lab studies of blood taken from vaccinated people and exposed to Omicron showed the variant can evade some protection offered by two doses of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, but a booster dose restores much of that immunity, researchers reported Wednesday. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has shown similar results.
On Thursday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed its recommendations for Covid-19 vaccines to make clear that shots made by Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech are preferred over Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine.
The daily rate of vaccinations is up around 22% from a month prior, according to CDC data, with more than half being booster doses. At the current pace, it will take more than two months for at least half of adults to get a Covid-19 booster, according to a CNN analysis of CDC data.
Biden said Thursday that vaccinations and boosters are essential to keeping businesses and holiday gatherings safe.
“For the unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death,” he said. “But there’s good news if you’re vaccinated and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death.”

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — At first glance, Moderna Therapeutics looks like the most enviable biotech startup in the world. It has smashed fundraising records and teamed up with pharmaceutical giants as it pursues a radical plan to revolutionize medicine by transforming human cells into drug factories.
But the reality is more complicated.
A STAT investigation found that the company’s caustic work environment has for years driven away top talent and that behind its obsession with secrecy, there are signs Moderna has run into roadblocks with its most ambitious projects.

The company has published no data supporting its vaunted technology, and it’s so secretive that some job candidates have to sign nondisclosure agreements before they come in to interview. Outside venture capitalists said Moderna has so many investors clamoring to get in that it can afford to turn away any who ask too many questions. Some small players have been given only a peek at Moderna’s data before committing millions to the company, according to people familiar with the matter.
“It’s a case of the emperor’s new clothes,” said a former Moderna scientist. “They’re running an investment firm, and then hopefully it also develops a drug that’s successful.”

Moderna’s technology promised to subvert the whole field, creating therapeutic proteins inside the body instead of in manufacturing plants. The key: harnessing messenger RNA, or mRNA.
In nature, mRNA molecules function like recipe books, directing cellular machinery to make specific proteins. Moderna believes it can play that system to its advantage by using synthetic mRNA to compel cells to produce whichever proteins it chooses. In effect, the mRNA would turn cells into tiny drug factories.
It’s highly risky. Big pharma companies had tried similar work and abandoned it because it’s exceedingly hard to get RNA into cells without triggering nasty side effects. But if Moderna can get it to work, the process could be used to treat scores of diseases, including cancers and rare diseases that can be death sentences for children.

Does Anyone Know Bubba the owner of What Bubba Knows blog? - Bubba is well
Last night I was scrolling the blog list and realizing I hadn't seen anything from "bubba" for awhile
it was surprising to see a post update in the feed. I stopped over and it looks like his blog
has been compromised with a bunch of way off topic posts every so often. I sent him an
email hoping to alert him to the situation. If anyone knows how to get in touch with him
please let him know. As noted, his own posts have been quiet for some time.

An Interesting Story....
Yesterday I stopped by one of the local establishments I visit every so often. As usual the
conversation will be small talk and pleasantries and skirt around politics and current events.
As I was talking with the proprietor one other customer was discussing the Rittenhouse shootings
and trial. All agreed he acted in self defense. At that point, the politics got a little more in the
forefront of the conversation as everyone knew from that exchange we were all on the same page.
The owner then mentioned to me about the effbeeeye calling his establishment.
From there it was holy shit, no way, shocked face as the story was told.
It was some months back, the story started, the same customer was there and the same type of small
talk was going on. As usual it turns to light politics, blah blah blah......
There were some other customers present and one of
them spoke out and very specifically stated a serious threat to leader of the free world. He repeated it
and was getting to the point that the others were trying to diffuse the situation without causing
escalation.
Finally, the party left and things returned to normal.
The next day they received a call from the local effbeeeye inquiring about the situation.
A few days after that, the customer previously mentioned, not the threat maker, got a visit ,
at his home, by the SS. They had an image still from the security camera inside the business.
It was a picture of the guy that made the specific threats.
The SS asked if (customer) knew the person in the picture. Which he did not.
After this, (customer) inquires with owner to see if the owner gave out (customers) home address
and a copy of the picture from the camera. Owner stated that he didn't give out any info.
Now they start analyzing what must have happened to get them into this type of situation.
There were other customers present at the time. One of them, most likely, called in to report
the threat and passed on license plate info of cars present. Effbeeeye calls to interview,
meanwhile someone hacks into the security camera and gets a still image.
The owner doesn't even have a printer on site. He also noticed
that the *record sound* was turned on. From day one he had that off and had to toggle it off again.
It just goes to show that there are always *ears* and if they want to get into your system, they will.
