  1. Having seen Leonid and Friends perform this, (even the band members from Chicago have played with them) they do a great job. Have a look if you haven't seen them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kQ1llzPiB4
I have been a Chicago fan from day one, and now thoroughly enjoy Leonid as well.

    1. Happenstanced upon those folks a year ago and I must say they do a mighty fine job at their craft. The drummer is dead on on everything he does, and the guitar player/vox is excellent. They're from Ukraine of all places.

  2. Compare and contrast this to the electrocrap they call music these days. It has no soul.

  3. Well, at least in the last four or five hundred years. And this music you speak of was pretty much across genres country, folk, jazz, pop and rock. I'm thankful to God to have lived in those days. Rock on!!!

  4. Man you ain’t kidding! This is the music that made me want to become a musician. My dad would blast CTA on the Mcintosh. The block parties were epic.
Great video ! Thanks Aarsh, brings back some fond memories.

    1. CTA = Chicago Transit Authority, first album only, because the real CTA raised objections. Most of you will already know that, most likely.

Sometime late 70's, the legendary John Records Landecker was the night DJ for AM 870 WLS in Chicago, spinning Top 40 before WLS went to an all talk program. It was a blowtorch and young un's all over the Midwest listened to his program while cruising main street and whatever-all else young un's did in the 70's. Some of you will remember, some of you will be incapable of remembering due to the whatever-all else it was you were doing at the time, but I digress.

Anyway, Landecker hated bubble gum music with a white-hot intensity that approached thermonuclear levels, and one night, blew a gasket about it, saying if you people didn't buy it, he wouldn't have to play it, and cut to commercial. After break, he played two Chicago songs back-to-back without introduction or any commentary. They were Chicago's full length album versions of South California Purples and I'm a Man. It was glorious.

  7. To turn on the radio and have this coming back at you. It was very exciting. Columbia record club membership only 99 cents. Marantz receiver. Pioneer turntable. Panasonic cassette deck.

  10. It is funny -- Chicago made me wish I had continued playing the trumpet, as now finally, here was a band that used the trumpet!! Oh well, the lack of musical talent on my part actually played the bigger role, but still, that could have been me up there!
In college I looked forward to each new album release , they were great then and (ahem) over 50 years later they still are.
    Thanks for the memory, Irish.

  11. For the past 50 years this has been my favorite song. Saw them in concert twice (after Cetera left) and this song, when played, still sent chills.

  12. Steely Dan in my opinion is the very best.
