  1. There's a batch of Russians and at least 1 Ukranian fella, band name Leonid and Friends. They do some awesome covers of Chicago and others; and their goal is to stay true to the originals. Their Stormbringer cover is absolutely amazing.

    1. Igor and friends are a 10 of 10 cover band. Check them out on the YouTube.

  2. Chicago played my undergraduate university back in the 1980s, and since I knew the building pretty well, I managed to navigate myself and a buddy into the restricted areas after the concert. Came around a corner and ran into Peter Cetera. We told him how much we enjoyed the concert. He looked at us for a minute and said, "You guys were up in the balcony on the right side, right? I saw you rocking up there." Then he called security and had us thrown out.

    Good times, good times...

    1. You are, by every definition, cool. May God grant you many more concert moments!

  3. Leonid and Friends' lead guitarist is nothing short of awesome. His solo on 25 or 6 to 4 evokes memories of Terry Kath.

  4. I've seen Leonid and Friends twice, and have a bass guitar behind me on the wall signed by the entire band in May of this year.
They are not Chicago. Chicago never sounded this good to me, and I really do enjoy Chicago.

  5. Went to see Chicago in the mid-seventies and was pretty disappointed. Their studio recordings were always so very polished, so my expectations were maybe too high, but they lost something in live performance in my view. The worst part was that the horn section was out of tune. I was a horn player in high school at the time and it was a major let down. Still a hell of a band though.

    1. I was going to respond with a link to that . . . . . you beat me to it. Leonid and friends better than the original, IMHO

  7. Here is their own FB main page. https://www.youtube.com/c/LeonidVorobyevandfriends/videos
They just finished about a year long US tour which I regret never seeing. However, it isn't often when a Cover does it better than the Original, but I believe that they have. Put on headphones and have a listen.

  8. Saw them in 1970 in Berlin at the OlympischeStadium…

    .great long long performance…

course my experience may have been augmented by the heavy 2nd hand smoke of the German couple next to us that were smoking cigar sized blunts of half tobacco and half hash…

  9. Chicago was the shit back in the 70s and early 80s.

  10. Terry Kath I think, at Tanglewood? The best version of Chicago, of course.

  11. Who here remembers John Records Kleindecker (sue me if I spelled that wrong, BTW) on WLS in the 70's? He blew a gasket one night about all the bubblegum music he had to play "because you people buy their records" and went to commercial. When he came back on, he just rolled the album versions of Chicago's I'm a Man and South California Purples back-to-back and went directly to commercial without saying a word on either end of the set.

    It was glorious.

We shall not see his like, or that of Chicago Transit Authority, again.

  12. I remember going to see Chicago and The Beach Boys "Summer if 75" Tour (in the summer of 1975, probably). It was quite good, although the air in Madison Square Garden was a little hazy. Apparently June 12, 1975 just after I gragidated high school.

  13. I hear echoes of Chicago in Durand Jones and the Indications. Give them a listen, if you want.
