One of My Favorite Christmas Songs...

  1. One of his better live versions.

  2. Great song, but have you listened to the lyrics? It's anti christmas and anti religion.

  3. Actually it's NOT anti-Christmas or anti-religion.

Lake caught a lot of flack over the lyrics (which he didn't write), and said he felt it was about Christmas becoming too commercialized, and losing the REAL Christmas feeling.

As he said in an interview:

"I find it appalling when people say it's politically incorrect to talk about Christmas, you've got to talk about 'The Holiday Season.'
Christmas was a time of family warmth and love. There was a feeling of forgiveness, acceptance.
And I do believe in Father Christmas."

The lyricist, Peter Sinfield, said he wrote the lyrics to be about a loss of innocence and childhood beliefs.

The first few times I listened to it I thought like you, and then I started looking in to it.

Go look up the lyrics, and read them while keeping in mind what the two artists who made the song said about it.
