Good bye '69 We Hardly Knew Ya.....

This video shows the owners of a burning 1969 Chevy Camaro berating Ill. firefighters for their response Saturday afternoon.

A woman yells, ”Oh, my God!” and “Water!" before screaming, “Is this your first fire?”

The Arlington Cardinal
reported that the vehicle became fully-involved with flames as firefighters connected to the hydrant and charged the line. The fire was extinguished within about five minutes.

The Camaro was on display at a high school charity show and somehow caught fire while being transported home in a trailer.

  2. A classic car with a mechanical fuel pump that probably had that crappy ethanol in it that ate through the seals in the fuel pump leaking fuel down on the headers. Whatever caused the fire it was a shame to see a classic go up in flames.

  3. My neighbor's truck went up in flames just after he spent $2,000 pimping his ride, er, I mean, attaching a snow plow (dammit, why does cut-and-paste lose the strikethrough formatting?). The local volunteer FD never did manage to get any water from the pumper to the blaze while another neighbor crawled under the burning vehicle and pinched off the gas line. The FD later went door-to-door asking for donations for new gear. The joy of not living within city limits...

  5. So that was the cause of all the smoke I saw saturday...With her smart assed remarks I would not fault them letting it melt down to the rims of the trailer.

  6. I'm surprised the fire dudes used water on a burning car.

Foam is the ideal way of putting out a gas fueled fire. Maybe they weren't equipped with a foam generator?
