Speaking of the Christmas Truce of 1914,
A great song describing Christmas 1914 "in the trenches" and having a group of WW1 German veterans visit his show some 75 years afterwards just to hear this song Christmas in the Trenches written and performed by John McCutcheon. Caution: It might get a little dusty.
It's a story I've heard before and a good one at that. You're also right about the dust.

Thanks. Least we forget. Yes, a tear in the eye. I have visited the WWI trenches, and the Cemeteries.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Europe. There was a time I would have loved to have gone and visited places my granddaddy fought during WW2 (Omaha Beach, Bastogne, etc.) and some of my other kinfolks fought in WW1, but not now. Maybe I can go after the next "Crusade".
DeleteI first heard the song on Christmas Eve, 1984. Ireland's Own pub in Alexandria, VA. Most of the patrons were off duty military or, like me, first responders. My folks were up in PA were I was to join them the next day. Seamus Kennedy sang the song and, while the Marines present will deny it, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
