Think about it from this point of view.

More and more people are doing the very thing this man describes (retiring early and/or using cottage industry or hobbies to generate enough to "survive", etc.). I first saw this at  Whores and Ale. I figure .gov will simply make more money. They have the machine that prints it. Or, they'll get the country in another war. Seriously, I have wondered for years what .gov will do when there are more folks drawing from the "Ponzi Scheme" than there are victims being extorted (taxpayers/producers).

  2. Even though the wife and I were pot smoking, hard working, conservative, off roading, shooting, shacking up, wild ones when we got together in '76, we got as trad as you can get. Now we hate the (((Blob, Cabal))) with a passion. We deal with it by living in the woods of Tennessee.
If any zombies, blue helmets, golden hoards, antifa, BLMs, whatever, make it to our neck of the woods, we'll HEAR about it. All our neighbors are farmer, rancher snipers, er, hunters.
This is a very Christian, "Trad" area. Meaning White, Christian, high trust, low crime. The women around here are not cringy or triggered. Even us transplants (overwhelmingly conservative) get with the "Southern" mentality. It's courteous.

  3. Society has brought this on themselves, and it's nothing new either. I had my position eliminated back in early 2018 at my last job (Director of IT). I tried like absolute hell to land another job for 2 years as I have a family I'm raising, but nobody wants to hire a old white guy like me anymore, period, for any reason. Lucky for me, I had just finished a life goal of getting completely out of debt, spent a few years beforehand over paying my loans and mortgage and saving up as much as I could, and maxing out my 401k contribution, like Past me saw the writing on the wall or something. Glad I did...

I updated my LinkedIn profile after struggling to find a job in IT, to say I was packing up my marbles and going home, gave myself a job title of Professional Dog Walker and said fuck it.

Once you cut all the fat out of your life, you can actually survive off a lot less than when your barely scraping by with paying loans out the ass. I threw my 401k into an annuity, so it would pay out nice after maturity (Enough to pay all my property/vehicle taxes and half my utilities for the year). Now, I just work odd jobs, either with my hands as I'm a jack of all trades, or in IT as a consultant for $175 an hour to businesses I had a relationship with once or twice a week, on MY terms. To tell ya the truth, I am living quite comfortably. So happy to wash my hands from the woke workplace, my quality of life is SO much better now. No, I will not be coming back, I'm done...

    2. Yeah, there's nothing quite like being completely out of debt, knowing you'll never fill out another job application or go on another job interview.
It's even better than what I remember about sex.

    3. I was going to say much the same thing. My whole IT department at a formerly Fortune 500 company was outsourced to India in late 2019 through early 2020. I was paid well to stay until my last day. I was already debt free and over 55. Finding a job during COVID was a tough. I talked to my financial advisor, and we figured out I didn't need a job to live at the same level I'm accustomed to.

I rebuilt my deck, rebuilt a muscle car engine, got a dog, started doing a few hobbies that make money, traveled whenever we felt like it. We went to Florida 4 times in one year!

Now, I'm going to update my Linked In title to Canine Excursion Specialist.

  4. Some of us are eschewing even the idea of a small house, we discovered RVs! I lived for nine years tooling around the mid-west, the south and southwest and the only constraint was moving with the seasons, heading to the warmer south for the winter so ya didn't freeze up your RV. Some of us took minimum wage jobs that were temporary or had a skill that could be spent at the computer, mine was medical chart audits for law firms. You get to see the country far away from the Interstate and decide when you had to finally slow down because of old age and infirmity, then you found that small home in a small community in fly over country.

  5. I did this 20 years ago. I'll start collecting my actual retirement benefits next summer. No regrets.

  6. Yup... I got crushed in the 08 collapse. Went off the radar for years, cash only living in an RV by the lake. Filed for VA disability in 22 because of damage to my body that occurred in 85. I might be able to get a job if I wanted to be a wage slave again, but it's unappealing. Now my wife and I are retired and debt free on a small patch of land. We'll draw our ss and va benefits until the ponzi scheme collapses and enjoy our time freedom. It's amazing how cheap you can live if you're not loaded down with debt and expensive tastes. A little garden, a few chickens and the occasional odd job go a long way if you have simple taste.
The movers and shakers are staring at a demographic collapse and that is what's driving the bipartisan push for unfettered immigration. It's not going to get better for them but it will get better for the people who know how to live on the cheap. When the system collapses under it's own weight it'll level the playing field.

  7. 9 years so far, do it! Life is to short, it’s amazing how little you need when it comes down to it. Besides I was 53 and no one wanted to hire a 53 year old so I said fookit. Yes it was risky til I scaled down which didn’t take long. My peer group doesn’t get it, I don’t care. Done more huntin, fishin, campin, travelin, and fun stuff than I did in the prior 9

  9. Many of us have taught those lessons for years.
If men stopped buying women everything they want, the consumer culture would collapse overnight.
If men used their skills to create small industry targeting local needs and unscaled to international trade, the workforce would revert from service to trade.

  10. After poor HS teaching my 2 sons decided on Trade Schools in early 2000s in different trades. My oldest is 40 with a family, house, cars, good bank account, and makes well over 6 figures. My youngest works in around business and the business women look down on him even though he out earns their Managers by far. So his view is he dates but has no plan to marry ever. He has a house and two cars.

  12. I have mixed feelings about it. I'll be retiring in a couple weeks and I will find a place in the sticks. I could work longer and have a wealthier retirement but, every time I turn around they've found another way to tax and or screw me. My employer's move to O'care doubled my healthcare cost, my employer's move to "Flex time" from accrued PTO burned me for about 6 weeks worth, new taxes on my stock investments when only 20% is privately owned while the other 80% are exempt. O'care, a demorat program, has Unions and govt employees exempt. People on welfare making more than entry level workers and most hardworking families while those same hardworking families foot the bill. I think screwing us until we give up on the system is by design so me quitting the system now is what gives me the mixed feelings but, IDGAF anymore. I've seen lazy ass union boys do it to the new guys{ Mind that I said lazy ass union boys, not all union boys} by letting the new gung ho guy do all the work until he realizes he is doing all the work while they coast. Anyway, I'm done

  15. Or work a little longer but not so long that you are old. Then cash out and not have to rent anything or drive a beater and simply live within your means and hobbies and mainly the SKILLS you have acquired. You want to be willing to share the skills in return for the same from your life associates.

When we walk away from the userers, there is a certain amount of freedom.

  16. Did the shitcan all the BS, paid off all debt, sold all but tools weapons and paid off pick-up, some personal items, found rural mountain 5 acres and independence for $46,000 cash, moved in a few days, never looked or even called back. Built my own off grid system, paying cash, hooked it up, one less worry there, get all the wholesome red meat and pork from my land, bills including vehicle tags/ins prop taxes, $550 a month, my metal shop long been paid for. Bake your noodle how much it all costs you having a regular job you work for somebody. It'll fuck your mind is how much. Groceries are 175-250 a month. And I can stand on my porch, whip it out and take a piss, and see I am lord of all I purvey, its fucking mine, only stick is those property taxes, but they are a good weeks pay, i keep 2 years ahead, so at least got that grace with that fucking bullshit. Lead a humble quiet life, no drama no politics, suffer fools about 20 seconds, and no one around fucks with me, cause i made it known i ai 't putting u with bullshit.
Its all so simple, hardest part is change-your-mind, did all this, and I never made over 40 grand in a year in the old life, so my resources came a bit hard won. I invested each week in some tangible useful thing, tool/book/material/equipment/supply. All of which are better than silver and gold specie. Thats it.Been ten years now all but forgot that fucking rat-race and wage slavery. I can you can. Got no excuses.

  18. I was a laggard, never got a "smartphone", I saw those as a huge distraction of my focus. I can see where people get hooked on a cellphone, akin to a drug. If people ever ditched their phones, they might feel a bit more "free" from nonsense. Excuses excuses,,,,, "oh, but I need it for work...." yada yada. Nobody ever had a hard time getting a hold of me, who needed to. Those phones are rubbish. It saved me 20 years X 12 months = 240 months of cellphone plan payments. Those gadgets are an artificial need, what a racket. A gal I service has one, tries to use it in traffic but half the time the connection drops and/or the map instructions are flat wrong. hahahhaha. Will enough ppl go Galt, so these systems someday become un-maintained and crumble in on themselves, useless ? Not if, but when.
