Some People Suck.....

I have been doing a ruck pretty much every morning in the conservation area that is on the way to work.  As you get to the end of the trail, headed to the parking lot, there is a foot bridge over a small stream. Last month I started tossing a penny into the “ Wishing Stream “ as I named it. My goal was to get them to land on the flat stone you see. It was submerged and rotated CW about 90 degrees from where it sits now.

There were maybe 30-40 pennies scattered around and on top of the stone.

Needless to say, some intrepid person, decided they needed 30+ cents and went out of their way to go down to the stream, move the stone,  and take all my daily “Wish” pennies.

People suck.

The new penny was from this morning.

I guess I can hope that maybe it was my Guardian Angel gathering my wishes and I’m gonna hit the Powerball Lottery soon.

Let’s see how many I can add until the thief returns.

  1. "Some People Suck....." Sorry to disagree, actually a whole hell of a lot of people suck.

    1. Maybe it's an environmental (mostly mental) wacko that decided the coins desecrate the stream.

  2. Make it a quarter and superglue it to one of the bigger rocks.

  4. I would go to a nature trail & put small labels on interesting plants, wildflowers, orchids, flytraps ,trees, things I thought should be noticed. Then the plants & labels started disappearing. Yeah people suck.

  6. If you keep chucking coins there, you're just encouraging them to come back.
Pop it in a charity collection and make a wish. Just as much chance it'll come true and you're guaranteed to have made a small difference in someones/somethings life. And those thieving beggars can piss of somewhere else.

  7. I used to work with a boss who was Scot-Canadian and he did not have a molecule of joy in his heart.

I messed with him by expoxying a "Two-nie" to the terrazzo floor just barely within his line-of-sight. It took him a week before he got down on his hands-and-knees and chipped the Canadian coin off of the floor. My sources tell me that he was a prick-of-misery until he did that.

$1.60 US well spent in my book.

Maybe find a silver bus token and do the same for your thief?

  9. I was raised as a feral Gen-X'er and spent many hours in the woods just exploring for lost treasure- only later in life realizing the treasure was the freedom and adventure itself. You may have made some kid's day when he happened upon an impossible sight of a gleaming treasure trove of shiny pennies in a creek!

  10. Only one with Guru Mind Seed would do such. Master, teach us Grasshoppers how to be one like you.

  11. On a more optimistic note, you may have made some kid's day.

  12. Perhaps, just perhaps, someone needed those pennies more than you who tossed them, perhaps to make a dollar, perhaps to pass on to a child....one never knows - unless you catch 'em.

  13. Someone needed them worse than you, give them your cloak. Not your wishes, the pennies, mighta been a kid. Think of his smile at the treasure he found.

  14. That is a gorgeous stream and a good way to get the day moving in the right direction.
You are right about people in general; most of them (us?) have more bad inside than good. And most of them are proud of it.

  15. Maybe taken by a crow. They like shiny things.

  16. Since Trump did away with pennies last week(not that Trump is wrong, they cost 3x the face value to make), maybe someone is collecting them for a future treasure trove in 4-5 years when they'll FINALLY be scarce and perhaps worth keeping them.

  17. Back in the day we used to throw change in the urinal trough at the American Legion.
Sooner or later someone would try to buy a drink from the bartender with wet change.
It was sure sign of a drinking problem the bartender would refuse service and 86 em.

  18. Back in the day of 10 cent beers. We used to throw pennies in the iurinal trough at the local beer joint. Sure enough someone would try to buy a beer with wet change. The barkeep would proceed to throw the bum out and refuse service post haste.

  19. This no more pennies thing is a lot bigger than meets the eye,if ya wanna pay cash and with tax reg amount say is $6.56 .......is the store gonna charge 6.55 or 6.70. ? The big guys never loose so we’ll end up paying 6.70. All this smells of the elimination of Cash.....I didn’t think Trump would sell himself out to the big man though maybe he will.

    1. By 'big man', are you referring to that certain old familiar 'foreign influence' we cannot criticize?

    2. If you’re paying with cash in Canada, purchases are rounded to the nearest nickel (a $19.82 purchase becomes $19.80 while $19.83 becomes $19.85).

      Delete
    3. Big Man is meant to be the Bilderburgs.

      Delete
    4. Thanks for Canada’s way of rounding I did not know how they accommodated the penny’s demise up there.

      Delete
    5. Regarding rounding, there are Wal Mart cashiers that will have a difficult time with rounding up or down.

      Delete
    6. Corporations will need to revise their software to tell the cashiers the rounded price.

      Delete
    7. Corporations will sum the lost pennies over millions of cash transactions and merely raise their prices accordingly

      Delete
    8. Then T will do the same with a nickel and the same will happen. By that time people will bitch about the lost cents and T will push the elimination of cash as this grand savings. I voted for T but still wonder if he’s still a puppet.

    9. But overall he’s better than the Marxist/ Commies

  22. Have fun with it. Expanding on Cmmn¢¢guy's comment:

    1) Acquire and place a trail cam.
    2) Secure a new rock.
    3) Epoxy the f**k out of a dozen pennies to that rock, then place it in your stream, in plain view of the camera.
    4) Post the resulting video captured online, as hilarity ensues, and your penny thief becomes the internet's bitch-for-a-day (or, serendipitously, some little kid getting a life lesson).

The fun in life is where you find it, and all of us could use the inevitable laughs.

    Best wishes,
    -A.

  23. I’m no stranger to gluing coins or fake credit cards (that used to come with credit offers in the mail) down for a laugh but I routinely pick up other people’s trash when I’m out in the woods. Maybe someone just cleaned up your litter.

  24. Abandoned property ... not stolen, recovered. Your feelings and intentions are yours, not shared by someone else. I get it, it would be cool if everyone felt the same about leaving things as a sign of your passing by, like a little monument. But you can't expect that from the public, unless it's on your own property. BTW, copper is toxic to plants, which is why they use copper sulfate to kill algae in ponds and copper roofing nails pounded into a tree trunk kills the tree.

    1. BTW, pennies have ben 97.5% zinc, with the thinnest of copper plating, since 1982.
And taking what doesn't belong to you is still theft by any other name, no matter how thin and specious the rationalizations.
