  1. I have one of those Mossberg 500s. Lightweight all right, the receiver is aluminum. Five years of dove & duck hunting it was worn out & junk.

    3. I inherited a 500. Every shot the recoil would turn on the safety. I traded it in on another gun.

    1. A full sized school bus will easily fit on the rump of the horse.

    2. Put up a picture of the Crazy Horse memorial. The pointing fingers is the size of a school bus too. The hair behind his ear is bigger than the whole of Mount Rushmore. Absolutely amazing this is being done by one family.

  8. The "finding true north" image is bull. Use it in the morning, and you'll be facing west-northwest, use it in the evening, and you'll be looking east-northeast. It is only accurate around noon. A better hint would be: "When the sun is at it's highest, stand with your back squarely to the sun. You will be looking north."

    1. I was fortunate to be the owner of one just like that one ,Cragar's and all. It wasn't a show car, but nice. It had the original 265 CID + Power Pack. Me and two friends took it to Panama City Beach and stayed 7 days. I had just turned 16. That was 1980. We broke a motor mount south of Birmingham and we couldn't shift into reverse. So, for the rest of the adventure, I'd put the car in neutral and my buddies pushed. It was drivable and not barely shifting. We knew it wasn't a roadside repair for us (we had tools) and putting it into a shop would kill the trip. I can't imagine turning three teenage boys loose in a 25 year old car that looked like that today.

    2. At 16, to have car like that? I am jealous. The first Chevy "small-block" V8. Had a beater 56 myself. Nice, but not as cool as the 55 or 57.

    3. I got another '55 a year and a half later. It was a 210 post. It had a 302 Chevy block/pistons, a solid lift camshaft/lifters from a 307 Chevy, 375 hp heads, Edlebrock high rise/Holley 4bl, headers, etc., and a Muncie 4spd w/Hurst shifter. It was a peppy ride. It was a med. gray small metal flake paint job. I later d-stroked a small block 400 and put it in there. Me and friend who had a body shop painted it black with 5 color flames. A lot of time and work in the paint job. No telling what something like that would cost today (4 coats of hand rubbed black laquer, then the flames, and finally a gallon of clear coat with pearl accent added. This was in the early 80's. Most people my age didn't appreciate custom classic cars the way they do today.

  12. According to these guys

    https://factcheck.afp.com/drowning-refugees-hoax-resurfaces-north-america

the drowning immigrant photo is real. The coast guard took video from a different angle and a spokesman says The Guy was probably standing/hanging on to the overturned fishing boat.

A thought: if I were the owner/skipper of a boat I were using to haul paying customers, I probably wouldn't want my boat to capsize. Kinda like crashing your taxi at the end of your shift. Maybe "sail it like you stole it" applies; even then, I wouldn't wanna be the skipper bobbing around in the water with a bunch of pissed-off former passengers.

  15. Mary Ann...always Mary Ann over Ginger. And Stone Mountain went from being the headquarters of the KKK to being a completely black s#!+hole of a town run by a corrupt all black city council. Yeah...what an improvement. If they try and destroy that carving it will be the flashpoint of an actual civil war (the 1860 one being a war of secession).

  16. I owned a 62 Chevy 409, 2-4, 425hp Super Sport, but if I were to bet on a drag race, I'd take
the 62 Ford 406, 2-4. Both were great cars!

    1. "Both were great cars!"
I've heard stories of two local guys. One bought a brand new '62 406 (3x2 barrel)Galaxy and the other bought a new 409 Impala (2x4 barrels). The story goes they drag raced a quarter mile several times on a straight road one Sunday afternoon. After several races, they called it a draw. The guy who was telling me the story said the winner usually was the one whose tires got traction first. He said both had more than enough horsepower burning rubber as drivers shifted gears and not enough "traction" in the form of better tires/suspension.

  17. My best friend growing up and until he passed away at 67 yo (throat cancer. He loved his chaws.) had that exact same 56 red & white chevy. Smashed it up though and was hurt just bad enough to keep him out of the Army and most likely cannon fodder in VN.

  18. Beautiful cars. I had my share of them Chevy's. A 55 Belair 2 door post with a 283, my mom taught me how to do upolstery as the car's back seat was trashed. Next was '63 Impala SS with a 409, I paid $200 for it. After HS graduration I got a really good job and bought by a brand new '69 Chevell SS 396, Butternut Yellow, black vinyl roof and interior, bench seat 4 on the floor super fast and no A/C. All of these between my Sophmore to 4 years out of High School.
I managed to keep on living and when I got to be around 55 I found another Chevy Impala SS, this time it was a 1964. It was almost a rust bucket so I decided to do a frame off restoration. It took me 6 eyars to restore it back to original, Riverside Red with red interior. I was living in KC at the time. I went to a paint shop early one Saturday morning and on the way I noticed a lot of classics driving around. It turns out that Good Guys car show was going on. So I drove the '64 SS and entered my car. I won 1st place in the Home Built class. Woo Hoo I got a small little trophy about 3" tall and a dash sticker. That got me the opportunity to drive 3 laps on the Kansas Speedway. I have a picture taken of me driving on the track about 70 mph. A sad thing happened right after my last lap. A guy with a T-Bucket Roadster was zooming around track and flipped his roadster. The track officals put an end to anyone else driving on the track.
I had me some really great times with the Chevy's. Since then I have owned a Tahoe and currently drive a Chevrolet truck. Sorry for the rant but at 72 years old I felt like spewing some Chevrolet banter.
