It is the same song, but a different verse. My son goes in the woods coated in doe piss and an hour later calls me to help him drag this out from the "holler from Hell". He talked me into helping drag the deer around to the mouth of the holler that empties into the backwater and pulled the boat into the nearby slough. There, we loaded him up and brought him that way. It was much easier. Pretty nice deer. He was young. I like the dark horns. I know it looks like fun and games now, but I imagine it is only a matter of time before I get the call saying my son had been raped by a monster buck if he continues to use that doe piss. LOL

DeleteLOL! back. Yeah, Dad's, had one like yourself, his other rule was, never had to enforce it, happily, you shoot it you eat it. But he had trap lines up till I was 7, and we ate everything including skunk, those guys never wasted anything anyways. Its a ton of meat trapping, mostly muskrat, and thats mighty good tasting fude in our family.

School the lifter mechanism finally gave up the ghost, for shits and giggles built one in 300 BLK, id that ain't a dandy of a round, use it mostly with kill tags keep them WV deer out of the corn, so far out to 265 paces its DRT every time, but to your comment regarding your boy-man, I got to really liking it for a hunting arm, besides, maybe us men folk, maybe its best we all hunt critters with what we might need to hunt another kind of critter with, kind that minuteman holistic mindset, now what I'm saying. Its quite a remarkable musket, light, effortless handling, proven, got commonality regards pieces parts too. Hey Merry Christmas to you and ones love you back.

ReplyDeleteAs an aside, does your state have a law limiting the magazine capacity of your hunting rifle? (Mine does - five rounds.) If so, and that magazine is not permanently modified to be compliant, you may want to blur out the rifle's magazine in that photo - no sense in making some LEO's job easier.

A couple of Newfoundlanders shot a deer 100 feet off the road from their truck and went to drag it back to their truck by the hind legs. An old Indian came by on a horse and told them " if you drag it by the horns it's a lot easier because you are pulling with the grain of the hair instead of against it.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wishes and congrats all. No worries regarding the magazine. Any capacity magazine is legal on private and public lands and always has been (private in this case). Wildlife Management Areas had a 10 round rule years ago, but I looked before I posted this and did not see it in the current regs period. For deer, the only rule regarding ammunition is "centerfire mushrooming designed specifically for hunting". The rules also read .30 caliber or larger for rifles and .40 or larger for pistols in the past. Not in the rules anymore. My son shot the deer with a .223/5.56 77 grain bullet. Where we hunt, a shot of more than 150 yards would be difficult. Depending on where I am going, I usually carry a scoped .30-06 Savage 110 or my old model 94 Winchester (I am old school). I was skeptical when he first started hunting with an AR, but the round/set-up works for him. That makes five deer in five years using that rig. I am not sure of the name brand of the suppressor, but it is a "goodun". The rifle is a Daniel Defense. He owns nice "hunting rifles", but,,,,,,,,,. The deer was young. I am guessing two yr. old. Someone asked the weight. My son thought the buck was about 145 LBS. I say so too, give or take 5 LB. I know I gripe about the terrain, but that is what I love about where I live and hunt. I gripe to my son about where he kills a deer, but would think nothing about trekking in to the same place after hearing a gobble. I'd rather chase turkeys in big hardwood hills and hollers here than hunt adjacent to big fields in south Alabama, as some people around here who belong to clubs down there, any day. I know people that sit in a shooting house all day long waiting to ambush a deer or turkey. I have done it on a rainy day, but that is not hunting to me. By the way, my son killed all five bucks on from the ground and none of the deer were baited (legal in Alabama on private and leased lands with and additional FEE/license). All my life it was illegal to hunt "near" bait. I know guys that have got tickets and did not know they were even close to bait in the past. I figure the F&G guys figured they couldn't stop it, so they simply made it legal and "taxed" it. #$%^^&&$%$##@@$#$#
ReplyDeleteAs a follow up, I sent a text to the local game warden about the magazine capacity in WMAs. His reply stated the rule was removed from the regulations about 10 yrs. ago and there is no longer any restrictions pertaining to capacity of magazines.

Nice Buck, congrats! I almost spilled my soy, nonfat, vegan latte when I saw that poor defenseless animal murdered by such an evil weapon. I literally can't believe there is anything left to eat! I am hoping my husband can calm me down from being so triggered!- LOL (And yes I am being a sarcastic ass). I haven't hunted deer for so long and it is awesome to see a young'en bag a dandy!
