The police use a trick in these situations. You refuse to talk to them so they say something provocative or intentionally incorrect so that you feel compelled to respond. You respond and they again provoke and the next thing you know you are in fact saying things that will get you in trouble. It works on most people, just make them mad or say something so wrong that they cannot resist responding and you are "willingly" talking to the police.
