  2. Nice. I like it.
That's one of four DC-10s flown by 10 Tanker Air Carrier. They're the largest air tankers flying since the Global Supertanker left the business. The DC-10s' nominal retardant capacity is 9400 gallons, which is way under the aircraft's actual weight capacity. Safety factor, and all.

All four of the DC-10s flew on last year's Mosquito Fire and helped to save the town of Foresthill, CA. It's the first time I've ever seen (FlightRadar24) all four dropping on the same fire on the same day. Two flew in from SoCal before that last day. Then one came in from Washington state and the last one left Montana in time to make several drops before dark that last day. It was quite a show.
I didn't really think the firefighters could save the town but darned if they didn't do it.

Pardon me for getting all air-tanker geeky on you. I'm became a real fan-boy when some large air tankers literally saved my home a few years back.

    1. Sounds like you have good reason to go "all geeky" about them. All good!

  6. My oldest did the hot Shot thing for about eight years. They don't do it to get rich. They're all Adrenalin junkies. He has videos of trees literally exploding in the middle of a firestorm. Crazy shit. That kids probably robbed my wife and I of about 5 years off our lives.
