  1. That's not what my dictionary says:

"Wight. Wights are undead monsters animated through the unnatural force of hatred and violence, creatures whose fury is now directed against all living beings. They are infamous for their ability to devour life essence."

Sounds like antifa on bath salts. And that isn't an okay thing to be.

    1. Interesting. It seems the definition is all varied depending on where one looks.

    2. Are you sure that isn't from the AD&D Monster Manual?

    3. It is an old word that has changed meanings over time. I read a reference in Old English poetry referring to the aurochs, aka wild cattle, as a "moor wight," though I am unable to find the original language just now and that may be a translator's choice and not the original word. The Oxford English Dictionary online has the definition "A human being, man or woman, person. Now archaic or dialect (often implying some contempt or commiseration)" for Old English and "Strong and courageous, esp. in warfare; having or showing prowess; valiant, doughty, brave, bold, ‘stout’. Of a person, esp. a warrior," for 1275 onward. Tolkien, who liked using older words and was quite sensitive about their original meanings, used it to describe a kind of ghost or revenant on Lord of the Rings.

I'm not all that impressed with the OED online info, which doesn't appear to be as complete as the real OED entry would be, and would suggest that the root meaning is something along the lines of "spirit" or "soul," which depending on context and dialect could mean "human being," "living creature," "disembodied spirit," or (evidently) "full of spirit."

Dunno if that helps any, but I like the shirt.
