  Lately, maybe due to the change of seasons, getting out of bed feels like this......

  1. Saw something similar happen to a squirrel earlier this year. It had built a nest near the end of a white pine branch about 15 feet off the ground. When I saw the nest I thought "that'll last until the first good wind comes along". I was lucky enough to be present when the nest became untenable. I heard a thump and saw the squirrel scampering away from the leaf pile after it hit the ground. Squirrel learned its lesson the hard way, although it didn't seem to be any the worse off as it was moving OK.

  3. How has this species survived in the wild. Seems like the natural enemy is itself.

  4. They don't far as I can tell.....only extra effort by man have they survived

  5. I think the human influence has been in both directions. Killing them in the wild for meat and, being China and all, their gall bladder like actual bears and more recently trying to preserve some specimens to avoid international criticism.
