TFIF.... ADblocker Question for a friend... Blog notes.... Meme Dump...

 First up.. J asks:

"Bought a new Mac mini. Had Ublock on my old one but not available for safari now. Looks like gooble chrome controls it and I refuse to use anything gooble if at all possible."

" Any good recommended ad blockers?"

Next up:

For some reason, *cough, cough* it appears that some comments are in limbo for awhile.

Each day older comments show up in the spam filter. Comments here are moderated so I get

to them when I can. Lately older comments randomly appear and I have "published" them

but , again, they are to older posts.

Now for some MEMES from all the contributions....

    1. I'm an IT guru. Adblockplus.org go to the settings and uncheck everything.

  2. I've got Ad Blocker Plus on my machine, and have no complaints.

  3. Try Dissenter browser (gab). It might have built in adblock capability. Sometimes almost too restrictive for me. Been using it for over year. I see some reference to apple support.

  4. I use Ad Remover and it works well, but I use Windows, so don't know if it works on Apple products, but worth checking out.

  7. The problem isn't the adblocker addons. The problem is Manifest V3, part of the underlying browser engine. One major difference between Manifest V2 and Manifest V3 is the restrictions placed on addons, according to google this is to protect the user from malicious addons/web pages. What it really means is that the methods used by adblock+/ublock origin/etc to intercept and block traffic has been severely restricted.

If you were cynical you'd say they did this to protect their ad-based business... Mozilla have said they're going to continue to support Manifest V2 (or at least the relevant parts) to keep adblockers fully functional.

See these links for other takes on V3.

  9. Hell Irish, I was about to say Ad Block, but I'd never checked who created it until this. So I check and am EMbareAssed to report that thus far I've found Ad Block code is from a unit named Michael Gundlach close ties to g00lag (chrome 'n such). Me fingers now inches from the Eject Switch in favor of one of the above...

  10. Another vote for Brave browser here.
(Hell...it was almost two years before I realized that Youtube inserts ads into almost every video. With Brave? The ads just don't show up. It's a beautiful thing.)

  15. Whatever. I got some such blocker on my phone. Seems to work. Just getting depressed now, the memes are cute but they still describe how fucked up this country has become.
