My Friend's New Toy

A friend of mine has had this replica Tiger I on order for a while. The builder used a T-54 chassis (turned around). He used a scale model for the finer details, but would drive to the Bovington, England Museum and measure their original Tiger I for the larger stuff. The photographs are of the Katzen being loaded onto a lowboy for transport to port in England. It arrived last week in the states. It does require some fine adjustments, Zimmerit applied and then painted. I will try to post pictures of the finished product in the near future. Enjoy.

  3. Nice, but the big question is 'where's he getting the ammo?'

    1. Maybe a bigger question. Where is he getting his fuel for it? How much will that set him back in money?

Partially off topic, anyone heard from Big Country recently?

  5. Have you been to the American Heritage Museum in Stow Massachusetts? Lots of stuff to see there. Bring your friend! Mr. Collings has a lot of the Jacques Littlefield collection of tanks and armored vehicles there, plus his own stuff.

  6. Let us know if it makes it into a movie as well. Would he loan it to some patriots?

  7. The SPR and BOB "Tiger" tanks were mock ups built on T-34 chassis. If you look closely in SPR at the end battle when the American soldiers climb on the Tiger and lift the "hatch" and throw grenades in, you can see that its the top of a 55 gallon steel drum and the "bung" can be seen.

  8. Nice.
I'd want the live 88 and MG-34s option though.

Otherwise it's just a vismod killdozer.

    1. The guy who owns the Tiger just sold a huge part of his collection including a BATFE registered live firing FLAK 37 8.8 cm (better known as an 88) and huge part of his MG collection consisting of several MG-34s. I'm sure hell come up with something befitting for the Katzen.

  10. Greatly enjoy that movie's scene.
Very good attention to detail. Mostly 'boys' with a few veterans with 1st & 2nd class iron crosses. A smattering of panzer assault badges.

  16. Does your friend’s new toy use diesel, as the T-54 did, or gasoline (petrol) as the Panzer did?

    1. Diesel. The powerplant is actually a V-8 Cummings.

  19. As for fuel the T54 can use cooking oil but it smokes like a freight train
