The Greatest Unfinished Song Of All Time ?

This is a short video explaining how the Wichita Lineman song came to be….

  1. First song I heard after waking up from major surgery in October 1968. Had been under for three days.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me, that I survived.
Unfinished song; yes, additional lyrics, perhaps. But, then so was I unfinished.

  2. It is always good to dive into classic lyrics and music; that was a very good presentation.
The line that puts place, time, and people together for me is
"And if it snows that stretch down south won't ever stand the strain".

  3. Did the font in the comments change, or is it my ancient-days eyeballs?

    1. I've noticed that myself. It's thinner and paler, but I thought it was just my OCD powered by my aged brain. Thanks for the conformation, Dan.

    2. I broke down (finally) and got a (much, much) bigger screen

    3. Dan, bogsidebunny, the font hasn't changed as far as I can tell. Maybe crazy charlie has the right idea :)

  5. I always liked his music but was never a huge fan or anything.

Does anyone else remember staring at the lines of power poles as you went down the road when you were young. If you’ll notice you don’t see that anymore except on the back roads.

I despise taking the interstates and only do so when there is no other options.its nice not being in a hurry to get anywhere.

  6. Two songs are my favorite, Wichita Linemen and Essential Highwaymen.

    1. Another Jimmy Webb/Glen Campbell collaboration was Galveston. Always wrecks me, man.

I still see her standing by the water
Standing there looking out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run

  7. Father-in-law was a lineman for KC Power and Light for 40 years, back in the days when electricity was affordable and reliable. Even after a tornado or an ice storm the lights would be back on usually within 48 hours. These days it can be 7-10 days for resumption of service. Another case of an out of state conglomerate buying a going concern and 'making it better'. Anyway, his son got his EE degree at Wichita State; we always kidded him about being the Wichita Lineman. After graduating he took a job with TVA and hated every minute of the too many years he stayed there.
