I’ve limped past 85 and see 90 on the horizon. Over the past 25 years or so, the number of familiar voices has dwindled down to a precious few. Grouchy Old Cripple, gone. Can’t find E-Claire. Haven’t seen a new post from Dianny since last December. Not sure what happened to WRSA. Stilton . . . months of ominous silence. John Simonds, says he’s terminal.
NONE of my runnin mates from a quarter century in the USN are still with us, and I can count the number of breathin souls from my highschool class of under a hundred without havin to take off my shoes.
Dayum . . . the falling friends — drift past my browser — those trusted friends — from days of old. I hear their names — their biting satire — those comment strings — now blank and cold.
Where are the memes — the gallows humor — the ridicule — I used to prize. Now it’s just stillness — a quiet graveyard — dead air and letdown — that meets my eyes.
Since they went away — mornings are lonely — coffee is listless — bagels are stale. And soon I’ll join them — in that snark wasteland — where lampoons wither -- beyond the pale.
Ah . . . ainsi la vie! Ou sont les bouffons d’antan??
’TIS nice to see, tho, that someone else’s criteria for XX allure is deeply rooted in east Asia (although mine tends to hover a bit south of Honshu).
Is this a yellow peril bonus?
ReplyDeleteYellow fever.

ReplyDeleteI think I should go the Asian mail order route. Is that still possible? Asking for a friend.
