TBH, some of those songs just sucked. Horse with no name? "In the desert ya can't remember your name, 'cause there ain't no one for to give ya no pain." How many double negatives can you use? Donny Osmond? Really?!? Young Michael Jackson? Please! Face it, some good, some sucked, just like every decade.
Yea...'bout that "10 cent balsa glider"... I get emails from a particular surplus websight. Got one about 2 weeks ago that caught my attention. They had the rubber band prop version of the balsa glider...for $13.50. I shit you not.
Balsa gliders in the 70s? I used to play with those in to 50s. By the mid 60s I was flying gas powered prop driven ones in the local club I belonged to. Good times.
1972 We'd just moved to CA from HI. I got a new radio, my first. A clock radio with the numbers that flipped. (IYKYK) Lying in bed, looking at that big moon through the window. The Chi Lites, O Girl wistfully playing softly. I felt incredibly romantic and lonely hearing that song play. The first song played on that radio.
