  1. But on the African it just looks stupid and has no practical purpose.

    1. That said, what IS the purpose of that bumper on the Ford pickup?

    2. Yet, I wouldn't bet against it becoming the newest "body modification" trend among the clueless trend followers !

    4. The bumper on the Ford gives you a place to take a nap while you wait on the tow truck.

    5. Shit, I'm 5'11" and I need a step stool to check the oil in my 2500 Denali diesel pickup. Maybe I should get Clint Eastwood's orangutan.

    6. Add a chair or two and a rail and it'd be a good safari shooting platform

  2. If I remember correctly, the origin of that lip stretch was to be ugly so the slave traders would leave them alone.

  3. I agree with anon. It makes it easier to reach into the engine compartment to fix the Ford…

  4. #32 - Not only will those gears not work, but the parent gear should be the biggest, not the smallest, right?

    1. I work for a major engineering company. Several years ago corporate started an annual event called Engineers' Week, where we could volunteer our time off teaching disaffected youth about careers not involving being a social influencer or TikTok star.
The Engineers' Week logo, no doubt sourced from some marketing firm at ridiculous cost, was three interlocked gears....and the gears all had the same number of teeth although differently sized....how we laughed!
They fixed the intermesh issue the next year, but they still all have the same number of teeth....

  9. the percentage may have changed a wee bit, but it has been claimed that 49% of US hamburger IS retired dairy cows. Probably quite a bit less these days with globalization & industry concentration.

  10. #1- I bought an (overpriced) old Y2K AT&T K-3500 that I swear they drove in the ocean.
Took the rusted caliper off and went to O'reilies to order two of them. They convinced me that an Easy-out would work (after I'd already broke the bleeder).
Bought it, took it home and even after heating it up.... snapped that easy-out like I knew I would.

  11. Most bumpers made like that were meant for the fire service. They were (and are) meant to hold various implements for immediate use or even an external siren. Whatever the fire department wants it to hold.
