Top is a lens cloud, bottom is mammatus. Lens clouds form at the top of atmospheric waves’ usually stirred up by wind over mountains, like a standing wave over a rock in a stream. (See: sierra wave) Mammatus is turbulence in an anvil top of a thunderstorm. Both are still surreal to me after all these years.
