Answer: Criminals and government. That's it.

Question: What are two and only two groups that benefit from an unarmed and law abiding populace?

 From the bookwormroom:

Why the Second Amendment matters

I don’t usually share emails, but this one is so good about the types of Americans who legally own guns, and why we need those guns, that I couldn’t resist.

Again, I didn’t write this. I don’t know who did. It’s clearly been making the rounds for a long time:

My old Grandpa said to me, “Son, there comes a time in every man’s life when he stops bustin’ knuckles and starts bustin’ caps and usually it’s when he becomes too old to take a whipping.

I don’t carry a gun to kill people; I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

  1. For those that don't know, eleven years ago I acquired a gimp leg as the result of back surgery. Since then, my standard speech to those that give me grief about carrying:
"I cannot run away; I cannot stand and fight. I am too young to die and too old to take an ass-kicking, especially the chemically-enhanced ones that today's Urban Youth are handing out."
The more Democrats tell me I don't need a gun, the more I'm convinced I do.

  4. I remember back in 68 when they where going to pass some gun law as my parents saw it. mom went down to the bank and pulled some money out and told dad to go and get a Colt 1911 for himself and a 38 Smith wheel gun for her
and 4 boxes of ammo for each. mom said if they trying to ban them, then we need a couple of them before they do.
dad had used the 1911 back in the navy and knew it well. mom shot a 38 in high school along with 22 rifles and pistols. she out shot dad with a handgun every time. and she was damn good with a rifle too.
when we went down to grandma house in KY. mom used to give us pointers on how to shoot better with the 22 rifle
she shut my uncle up fast one time by out shooting him BIG time. she bounced 6 empty cans with 6 shots faster
than he could. I not sure who got mom's old 38 Smith. it was a old 4 inch barrel one. she used to keep it in her sewing room though. dave in pa.

  5. I think the genocide numbers cited are low. Otherwise I agree with everything. It is every individuals right to protect themselves, family and community. True evil is seen in criminals, government and pacifists.

  6. The term for the murder of any person or people by their government is Democide. Here is an interesting read from the folks at ammo.com. https://ammo.com/articles/democide-hitler-stalin-mao-state-violence-guide

  7. "Individually, we do not bear arms because we are afraid. We bear arms
as a declaration of capacity. An armed man can cope - either in the city
or in the wilderness - and because he is armed, he is not afraid.

The hoplophobe fears and, yes, hates us, because we are not afraid. We
are overwhelmingly "other" than he, and in a way that emphasizes his
    afflictions."

  9. I JUST had this converstion with a guest visiting us from NY. As a hunter, he liked guns, but honestly couldn't understand why anyone would need an AR styled rifle. Was an honest question after I told him I have 3!
(I first pointed out I have 2 teenage sons). Have you or anyone you've known ever heard of a situation in history where a population had to defend itself against a nation-state sized aggressor?
To his credit he gufawed and agreed a couple million Ukrainians would probably like the 2nd ammendment right about now. The Poles are prolly looking it up, too.
And the Syrians, and Libyans, and now Sudan kicked off its own little dance party, dont forget south africa... and lets have a little convo about the cartels in Mexico now that you are 800 miles closer to them here in my home in Tennessee than in your home in WNY...

So in this 60 second conversation we were able to point out a half dozen countries who's population suuuuuuure could use an AR and 2nd ammendment, without even having to look it up! 6 countries engulfed in war right now today! You still want me to turn in my guns?
He agreed that maybe he did need to reconsider his objections to civilian ARs....
Never even got to the domestic reasons for why I will never turn mine in.
