Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian fantasy-animated film directed by Gerald Potterton and produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel, who also was the publisher of "Heavy Metal" magazine, the basis for the film. The screenplay was written by Daniel Goldberg and Len Blum.
The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, it has a great deal of graphic violence, nudity, and sexuality. Its production was expedited by having several animation houses working simultaneously on different segments, including CinéGroupe and Atkinson Film-Arts.
The movie had a "GREAT" soundtrack
and some cool animation given it was back in the early '80's that this was done.....
Good morning Kev :)
ReplyDeleteYup..The good old daze....hehehhehe
That takes me back to my sophmore year, thanks for bringing back some good memories!
ReplyDelete@ boiler and thanks for the mental vacation ;) ( linky post going up at lunch)
ReplyDeleteI quite enjoyed the movie (I was 29 when it came out), and the music was great.
ReplyDeleteAnother one that came out that year that I liked but was not as popular was the animated movie American Pop, which suffered from not getting as much publicity. It gave a good telling of the history of music in America through several generations of a particular family.
THanks Bob G... I never heard of it, I'll have to go check it out :)
ReplyDeleteI rewatched as much of this as I could about a year ago. After about 30 minutes, I couldn't handle it any more, despite the excellent soundtrack. How I've changed.
ReplyDeleteStill have the VHS tape of the movie and the cassette of the soundtrack. And the machines to play 'em.
