That was Outstanding! I have never heard of Nightwish before tonight. I’m a Dream Theater fan. However, I’ll have to find the Wacken concert and crank it up in the man cave this weekend! Thanks for sharing.
saw them 2 years ago..my girlfriend dragged me along. I thanked her afterwards. she does the whole "VIP" thing where you get to meet the band, and she does it often enough that the singer remembered her.
almost as good as the Sabaton concert I went to last year if I had to rank them.
top of the list will always be Motorhead, followed by Weird Al.
yes, Weird Al. don't knock him, he throws a heck of a concert.
Well, Flor Jansen is a great singer but I still think Tarja Turunen was better - has a better voice and technique. Check the version of the same song with Tarja: https://youtu.be/YODCM26JXOY
I'm an old 71 yr man who loves rock and wore out all my old stuff, wondering why rock faded so much. Anyway, my fav band nowadays is Band Maid, a 5 piece all female Japanese ensemble that after seeing twice I can say is the best live band I have ever heard ( of course Jimmy Page had to be dead drunk the one time I got to see Zep- shit I'm still mad ). Over 100 great songs in their 10 yr catalog- if you like hard rock, check them out many many MV's and live vids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPXhkiYRPZI&list=LL&index=3
Nightwish have to be seen live to really appreciate Fleurs vocal range. Everything from Growls to the Floorgasm that ends Ghost Love Score. A different take on something you recognise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plCScjvDOJM @Pat, have you listened to the Wagaki Band? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xjwe9WyO8Qs
Oh sure and Nemophila Lovebites Gatharic Spin. But Band Maid hits me perfectly you know it's that connection thing. But I do listen on occasion To Wagaki they are very talented
Your are welcome. Now as mentioned above Nightwish's first singer was also enormously talented. The band has been around for about twenty three years and has an enormous catalog, the saying is your favorite Nightwish song is the last one you heard. They are talented top to bottom and have a number of live concerts available on the tube of you. There live stuff sounds better to me that their studio stuff. For your next number I suggest the more metal Rpmanticide. Other top bands of similar talent include Epica, a bit more on the metal side, and Within Temptation. Floor does a couple of live duets with Epica, one of which is a medieval religious song done straight by two metal queens in the middle of a concert, you'll be amazed. Floors earlier bands are great also and are great live After Forever she joined as a teenager and ended up running it and Revamp is more on the metal side. Floor's husband is the drummer for a Swedish band that does military history hard rock, another band that will knock you out.
There is a Nightwish concert called The End Of An Era from 2005 that was the last appearence of their original vocalist with the band. It is another truly spectacular musical performance.
Never heard of them till now...beautiful voice....and drummer is great!! I sat in on an impromptu session recently, didn’t know I was auditioning for a spot as a drummer, thought it was just an informal get together to jam...the lead suggested I take lessons after the first few measures...I just laid the sticks down and walked away, lol, maybe I do....but I drum to the beat of my own drummer....
Sadly the original drummer had to stop performing due to insomnia and now is on the management side of the band (sounds like Spinal Tap, I know). His replacement Kai Haito can be seen on the Vehicle of Spirit video. My son and I were fortunate enough to be there the night they recorded the concert.
Funny, I was in chemo yesterday for about 8 hours, and one of the songs in my ears was the same thing live with the original lead singer, of whom I have no particular preference for except that she was the first and the originator of the genre....all in all, a brilliant sound by a truly gifted group of musicians....
Music from the gods. It's classed as 'symphonic metal' . If it appeals to you, I'd recommend Nightwish, Within Temptation, Imperial Age, Epica and Stratovarius to get you started.
They are an amazing band with talent and incredible song writing by Toumas. Everybody has an opinion but I think Floor far outperforms Tarja. The last thing I want to hear is an opera singer in a rock band. Floor has so many differient styles/emotions that she brings into the songs.
Ah yes, Flor Jansen is an amazing singer. This is arguably her most famous song, but anything by Nightwish is great.
ReplyDeleteBeen listening to Nightwish for years. Listen to the entire Wacken concert- simply incredible. And Flor Jansen, That is a woman!

I like Lovebites a lot as well as Band Maid. I would so love it if they somehow collaborated at some point.
