Extraordinary live hard rock isn't dead, it just moved to Japan. These ladies celebrating 10 yr anniv. with about 120 or so great songs. This is a rabbit hole I discovered about a yr ago saw them live in Austin, best live band I've seen in 50 yrs or so. I'm 71 and just happy to hear new rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHpuEqMAcDg
Got home from Vietnam 12 /71 and went to a club called “The Point” north of Flint. The McFadden brothers, Eddie and Munk, were the house band. Yeah, Munk was his birth name and the McFadden brothers were not to be trifled with. Anyhow someone in the back of the club yelled out, “play some Grand Funk” and one of the brothers responded,”we don’t play no Frand Gunk here”. Always loved GF but can’t forget hearing Frand Gunk. For years they were “The Fabulous Pack” and prior to that “Terry Knight and the Pack”. (look up Wide Tracking by the Fabulous Pack, yeah bubblegum, but you’ll recognize Mel’s bass and Mark’s voice) Sez 1st ANGLICO
Went to see Grand Funk in 1970 at the Memphis Coliseum...opening band was a then unknown Humble Pie with Peter Frampton on lead guitar......they were so good that Grand Funk came out and had to give Humble Pie an encore....at any rate, great show....Grand Funk may have been the loudest band I ever heard....those days will never happen again....the real mindset of the music scene exhibited by Woodstock, with bands refusing to go on unless paid in advance, killed whatever innocence existed about free love and Rock n Roll....I remember being in bands in those days when the sentiment was "Don't tell 'em, but I'd play for free"...."those days are gone forever, over a long time ago".....thanks to Steely Dan for that one....
