When You Were Down And Out, Mom Always Said....

"Get you helmet on and get back in the game!"

From what I was told, Dad played football at Notre Dame his freshman year.

That was what the coach would tell the players.

Mom used that to get us to stop fartin' around and get going....

I'll be back later.  Looking for my helmet.

  2. Irish, my sincere condolences. You have brought much joy to my life over the past few years. Thank you. Now it time to share some sadness as well. No hurry to find your helmet. The game will be here when you are ready...

  9. My condolences Irish. I lost both my parents less than a year apart. I know what you are going through. Nobody would blame you one bit if you took some time off.

  10. You've got friends all over the 'Nets, so just reach out for any support that you may need, brother. I'm just a slug who used to post at a once-great site, but I can lend an ear and offer shitty advice and maybe a few links that may assist with the FFF.

  11. I just finished reading your post about your dad and there are tears streaming down my eyes. We've never met but I completely understand what you are going through. Lost my mom in Sept of 2019 a few months shy of her 84th birthday. My dad is 87 and in assisted living for a couple of years now. I wonder every day how much longer he has and dread looking at the phone when it rings. May God richly bless you and the wonderful memories you clearly have of your dad. -- a reader in California.

  14. Irish, this one is going to sound unbelievable, but is completely true. Out for dinner and brews last night with friends. Usually a pilsner and IPA guy. Not sure why, but Smithwick's sounded good. When the time came for the re-order, instead of moving to a pilsner, I ordered another. In the end, I had four of those and nothing else. I didn't see your post about your dad until this morning. Just a coincidence I know, but in retrospect, a weirdly comfortable one for me. Prayers to you and your family.

  15. Irish, this is not a coincidence, this is creepy. I Googled "Smithwick's" right before posting my comment. While writing the post, my streaming "Music Choice" music channel was playing instrumental "Soundscapes" songs. A song started playing with lyrics. I have NEVER had a lyrical song play on this station. EVER. Until now. The song was Siochain/Peace. I never heard of it before, but looked it up. Wow. Did Google see my search and somehow communicated the theme of my search (Irish) to my streaming music? Unlike Spotify, Soundscapes doesn't let you request a song, a theme, and even let you skip or like/dislike songs. You just listen to what they give you or turn it off. I listened. Really cool. Peace to you and your family.
