I've probably posted this before. A good read about the New England logging industry in northern VT and Maine - "Tall Trees and Tough Men", Robert E. Pike, first published 1984. Your local library may have a copy. If not, they can get one via the inter-library loan program. There's also a paperback re-print on sale on the beast.
Cederq's post the other day got me looking for information on what I think was a logging train that ran along side the Buffalo River in Gilbert Arkansas.
There are remnants by the town of tracks and so forth. I have camped and launched there to fish for small mouth on the river. One of the most beautiful of God's finest sculpturing. If you like to fish I highly recommend it or the White River for trout not to far away.
