When You Finally Remove The Free Corn.....

  1. DAMN, that is one BIG Claas chopper - what a sexy beast!
That Kemper head had to be gnawing on their tails right before they bolted.

I imagine that is what NY would look like if we manged to cut welfare in half. Pigs on the run for another parcel to plunder.

Over at the Farm, the big problem is bears. With some minor 'coon damage.
A damn bear will sit down in the middle of a field and pull all that it can reach to itself. It then gorges on ears of corn until it makes itself sick, and throws it all back up. It will then move a few yards and do it all over again - time after time. Two years ago we lost about a third of a twelve acre field to bear damage. Circles of pulled down corn, and piles of bear puke everywhere.
If my brother had managed to find it, he would have made slippers out of the SOB!

    1. Same thing here in Northern Colorado. If you have a large amount of corn planted, you WILL have bears.

  3. That reminds me of door opening time at Walmart on Black Friday; except there weren't any handicap parking spots.

    1. It may be, Sabre, but very possibly not. I would venture that it is in the South or Midwest region of the US.
The tractors pulling the dump trailers all look to be 8000 series John Deeres. While not overly common here in Northeast New York and Vermont, I do know of at least three farms that have them. Mostly because your typical farm, around here, doesn't need a machine that starts at 245 HP.
The chopper is a Claas Jaguar, and what a beast they are. If it was a 980 series; it has a twin turbo Mercedes V-12 diesel making 884 HP. They can chop around 10 rows of corn at 5 - 8 MPH. True, it is a European machine - but we have a local farm machinery dealer in Salem NY, that carries Claas and Krone machines. Again, around here, most farms can't accommodate such large equipment in their fields. My brother does have a Claas round baler, though.

  5. Hmmm.

Just think of the billions we could save on 'the Wall' if we did the same with 'free stuff.'

  6. The Sugar Cane farmers in Far North Queensland, Australia have the same problem with feral pigs. Guys make a good living shooting the varmints.
