Careful how you close that door when the window is all the way up - sometimes it goes more than all the way up, then hits the frame when you close the door and the window explodes. Don in SoCo
I first heard Van Halen when I was a Senior in HS in Alhambra, CA and my neighbor a few houses down had a Quinceañera Dance at their house for their daughter and had Van Halen as the band. They were loud and I took their son to school with me in my car and he told me about the band. This was in 74.
That was the OEM sound system! Mine worked fairly well in a '71 'Stang.
I think mine might have been the rarest version that year. I've seen one other like it. Had the 429 Super Cobra Jet engine, with the Fairbanks modified C6 automatic transmission (factory), 4.11 Detroit Locker differential, Ram Air hood, Mach One body style, with the rear seat back (2+2?) that folded down, and the hatch that lifted to put long objects from the trunk to the rear seat area. Snow skis perhaps?
Long gone. Next owner crashed it on the Bay Bridge when he lost control shifting into high gear and it hit the guard rail. Stock dyno tests show that engine package produced ~515 hp at the rear wheels. He had added a bigger carb and intake manifold with custom headers, expecting 600+ hp. It got parted out, apparently. I had DMV do a VIN trace a few years ago, and it had no history. I tried to buy it back from him after the crash, but he wanted too much, and he had already started to dismantle it. Stock, with bigger than stock rear tires, it would spin them all the way to the lights at Fremont Dragstrip.
I once had a 73 Mustang in red(lemon) worthless in wet or snowy weather. Second hand in 1977 sold it in 78
ReplyDeleteCareful or you'll tarnish the Golden Dreams.
DeleteDo want.
ReplyDeleteGreat tune
ReplyDeleteKudos to the Legend keeping it up.
ReplyDeleteAren't all time travel trips quick by definition? They only linger if you keep going back.

My friend John used to drive me to school and/or chour practice in his blue/white Rally-striped 37. What a great car...
ReplyDeleteI love time traveling.

ReplyDeleteI have a good friend who still has his dad's 1973 convertible Mustang. White with the Olive green stripe. He is not coming off it for love or money.
ReplyDeleteNice car, great tune. But 8-track? I could hear the tape hiss from here. ;-)
