.gov is already involved. The Nat. Weather Service has been forecasting clear skies for the three days preceding the event in the path of totality for over a week. Today the forecast has switched to cloudy on 6 & 7 APR and clear on 8 APR and the subsequent two days. There's gonna be a lot of pissed off people if they've been lying, especially the way this event has been and is being hyped on local and national news casts and stories on all of the major online news sites.
I'm ready. I got my NASA approved sun filter for my smart phone camera yesterday. I have a two hour drive to the edge of the path and three hours to get deep into it. The difference is 1.5 minutes of total at the edge vs 3.5 minutes at the deep spot. I'm hoping to capture the "diamond ring" and some good "ring of fire" snaps along with pics of the approach to total.
Read an article elsewhere this AM indicating that the interstates are going to be jammed with travelers going home after the event. Hotel rooms in the area I'm traveling to have been booked for over year according to local reports.
...and now sports fans, the Path of Totality may or may not have been calculated correctly depending on who used what calculations of the Sun's diameter. There could be as much as a 300 yard discrepancy in the width of the path which could put cities and towns that were on the edge of the zone, like the one I was initially traveling to, OUT OF THE ZONE. most of the time. but true terror happens during the day. that is when the terror is increased. people expect to be afraid in the dark, but during the daytime ? that really freaks people out. learned that a long time ago in some army school/class/whatever. terror by day has 2 times or more impact on people. dave in pa.
I think the gov would say, if whatever happens was good it was them. If it was bad it was those MAGA people.
