Business Travels Today.... Brunch / Lunch Suggestions Western New Hampshire... and The Sullivan Machine Company....

My travels will take me out to the Western side of New Hampshire. If opportunity or time is

available I may try out brunch in that area.  Any suggestions in the Sunapee, Newport, Claremont

route / area?

If I get the chance to stop I will report back my findings.

This looks good, but I'd have to sleep for a day or two after that.

Checking out the history of Claremont, I found out that there was a large, turn of the century

manufacturer there. The Sullivan Machine Co. They built drilling and mining equipment.

Here's some interesting images from the Library of Congress. <<<<<<<

Huge facility on the river.......

I found a rabbit hole, while searching info,  that I have to explore later........

  1. That is a rabbit hole well worth following. The tale told both by the ambition of the men of the 19th century and the lack of it by the adult children of the 21st has not been clearly written.

  2. Bubba's Bar and Grill - 976 Route 103, in Newbury...a few minutes from Sunnapee - a solid 6.5. https://bubbasbarandgrille.com

  6. Interesting. If I get the chance to take a picture, we have an old Sullivan air compressor (cica approx. 1915) sitting in our (sort of) front yard. It was abandoned years ago in an old local mine and pulled to our place by a horse team (this thing is a beast).
Two compression pistons driven by a gasoline engine made by the Budda Engine Company. Was used to drill the charge holes in rock to place dynamite charges.

  7. Welcome to our neck in the woods Irish! Here's some suggestions in no particular order:
Bubba's Bar & Grill, Sunapee Harbor "We're always having a good time". Right on the water, great menu. Lunch/Dinner
The breakfast at Fenton's Landing on Main St. Sunapee is good. Breakfast/Lunch
Either Salt Hill Pubs in Newport (upstairs bar) and in Newbury are good.
If you do make it to Claremont, the Common Man there has a very nice multilevel dining room attached to their hotel of the same name, in former mill buildings on the Sugar River, and be sure to check out the open hatchways in the floor to the raging Sugar below. Pretty cool.
Our fave almost-dive bar / pizzeria is Daddy's in Claremont. Then again a lot of Claremont is a dive lol.
Best all around IMO is the Flying Goose in New London. This is a solid Brewery with a solid menu overlooking Mt. Kearsarge. Sit in the bar (inside and to the left) - or outside.
