I guess one could look at it this way....if our country is ever attacked, I won't be standing in any lines waiting for a government handout like the Ukes.
Cool. But the Canadian stat is completely out of whack. The government plays it down because they don't want people to know how many guns are really in the country. It's likely 2 to 3 times that amount and climbing rapidly.
And if you want to know how we know, there is an RCMP report done three decades ago, before the first round of universal registration, wherein the horsemen carefully tabulated all the government's own records on manufacture and importation to arrive at about 21 million firearms officially imported or made in Canada. With the caveat that there might well be a significant number brought in (legally then) by private transportation or as, for example, undeclared war trophies (also, other than for pistols and full auto, once legal). Then, dare anyone mention the huge number of illegal firearms that are clearly floating about in the hands of particular groups, on the safe streets of our gun controlled cities?
Only about seven million were presented for registration, and the twelve million number is the growth from that "official" number. Care to bet that the rest don't still exist?

Some years ago there was a blogger who did a deep dive on the number of guns in the US. In that video, they said 390 Million, which is close to the 400M we hear all the time. The deep dive said at least 600M and more like 800 Million. That was long enough ago that it might be 900M by now.
Nobody but I know precisely how many things I own. I say "things" because guns are some of the many things I own. I don't differentiate just because criminals at a distance claim to have some say over what I may possess. For me, a gun is a tool, much like one of the many hammers, saws, screwdrivers, knives, axes, hatchets, etc. that I possess. It's nobody's business but mine no matter how hard they stamp their feet.
Lucky. You must live in a state where you are not required by law to report on all gun purchases. When I purchase a gun in Massachusetts the store fills out the form that is sent to the State. But if buy or receive a gun out-of-state then I must, by law, report that gun to the state and if that gun isn't on the approved list or can incorporate a magazine with more than ten rounds I must surrender it to the state. By law. So I'm not going to build up a huge collection of guns which might be confiscated if the political winds change direction or the new Governor decides he has the power to ban all guns. In the meanwhile I'll be able to train and practice. And if the police are sent to collect my guns, I shall cooperate and live to fight another day. But this house will be on the market the next day. The problem is, the enemy is flipping states everywhere. Where do you go? Poland looks good, but I understand the language is a bitch to learn.

ReplyDeleteThat's cute. Wonder why the big guy sat on what looked like the Japanese ball?...

ReplyDeleteabsolutely agree. There's way more guns in Canada then gov. are saying or know about. This is fact to those in the know.

Always a good part of any gun conversation - Bill Whittle Number One With a Bullet
ReplyDeleteAnd this is 2015, so Chicago and the ohter diversity cities have gotten much worse.
All the others probably included their military issuance.

ReplyDeleteWell until this year I hadn't owned a gun for over forty years. Now I have two; the upstairs gun and the downstairs gun.
DeleteThere will be more.
Here's a funny thing it cost my five bucks more to gas up the car yesterday, but ammo was five bucks less than last week.
Si - very likely to be even more than the 900 million after all the bats recently admitted that they had ffl purchase records of nearly a billion.
DeleteThat was Weaponsman. RIP.
DeleteWhat got him started was that the total number of firearms didn't seem to be increasing despite record sales and production.
