Country music legend Tom T. Hall passed away at his home in Franklin, Tennessee at the age of 85. Tom was one of the greatest singer/songwriters in the history of country music. He will be missed. R.I.P Mr. Hall. Here are a few of my favorites.
Yes indeed. They don't come much better. Joe Galloway was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device for valor as a civilian. That almost never happens. I regretted to hear about Tom Hall. I was upset about Nanci Griffith. But I cried when I heard about Joe Galloway, and I'm damn sure not ashamed of it.
Ol' Tom it seems, has passed from the scene, and has gone to a place so sublime. May the water be clear, and taste just like beer, and never be turned into wine...
Damn, he was one of the greats. All of the songs you have here were memorable, and deserve to be considered his best. As I get older, now at the age of 61, I am seeing more and more of the singers and actors of my younger days passing on. And it reminds me of both my advance towards my own demise, and the march towards the coarsening of modern music and other entertainment. There is simply no concern for quality, but rather it seems a desire for uniformity, in order to fit a box that will make a certain return on investment, as quantified by some algorithm. As humans we are much poorer for it.
I'm going to throw one at you I bet you've never heard. Bubba Littrell was a local act in San Antonio and back when I was young this record got a little air time on local stations. The writing credit on the label is Tom T. Hall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aJbonGWlII
Late 60's or very early 70's sometime as far as I remember. I know Tom T. Hall and Bobby Bare were performing together in San Antonio in that time frame and discovered Johnny Rodriguez performing locally and took him back to Nashville. Bubba Littrell was locally famous for playing in nightclubs and dance halls and I always thought "Hang Around San Antone" was an overlooked gem. If you listen carefully to the style you can tell it's a Tom T. Hall song.
Another good one from TTH: The Great East Broadway Onion Championship of 1978. I remember that playing on K triple L.... In 1978 or 79.... Yup, we are getting old enough now to bury our stars and heroes. I remember when mom and dad were watching their favorites go.
Yeah, last week was a rough one. We also lost Joe Galloway.

Don Everly passed this weekend.
ReplyDeleteA 'National Treasure', and from all accounts, a humble gentleman.

You are correct Mikey. I had never heard of the artist or the song. What year was this recorded?
DeleteThanks for sharing.
