Millions of rounds of ammunition were stolen from two hijacked trucks on a Mexican highway inbound for the United States.
98.5 percent of what was stolen was .22 caliber. As most on here know, .22 LR is not the preferred rounds used by the cartels. I wonder who was behind this heist and why. It is stuff like this that make one go hmmmmmm.
Ammo is worth money. Thus the cartels will steal it if they think they can make money. They have been known to steal avocados...which can often cost consumers a dollar apiece.
ReplyDeleteCan you say black market in high price environment. Had help from ATF probably. I do not buy mexican ammo.
ReplyDeleteYour .gov at work
ReplyDeleteI have found Aguila rimfire to be comparable to the old Winchester Super-X. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI have a box like that sitting right next to my monitor, 38 grain though.

Which reminds me: I need to go to the range this week to honor my constitutional freedom.
Ammunition is the new currency. It is ballistic Wampum. Jeff Cooper was correct as usual.
ReplyDeleteSo far as "the why" is concerned, as I'm to a high degree of confidence everyone 'regularly reading here' is aware, the description given on this product link explains that "why."

Now I hurriedly add that, just because I point out such a product does not necessarily mean I have any such thing in my home - matter of fact I converted my gun cabinet to a peanut butter and pasta storage cabinet. Just specifically saying so for the benefit of any whom have recently taken to *red-paging* people's blogsites.
I might add I've even gone so far as to beat all my steel into plowshares.
I promise.

They are probably sending across the border to trade for lumber.

The underrated .22 caliber round is perfect for assassination. It has been used for that purpose by nation states in the past. Using an ice pick through the eye socket or heart is somewhat an illustration of the efficient possibilities of the small .22....Every large caliber handgun and rifle owner can snort and giggle at the idea of using a .22 for self defense or devious acts. I for one do not cherish the idea of getting shot by a paint ball gun much less a .22 long rifle. I've read many news articles over my life of people having died due to a .22 caliber slug...
ReplyDeleteMy first CCW gun was a 9 shot, H and R revolver that I already owned. I didn't have the money to buy another gun, and I figured that 9 shots was just like poking someone with a pencil 9 times. I know that I would not like to be stabbed in the chest 9 times with a pencil.
DeleteMy next gun was a P64 in 9mm Makarov, a much better round, and after some work, the gun was my favorite. Kind of a PPK clone, but a very heavy double action, which was made much better with a new spring and a lot of rounds through it, I think it was eventually around 17 pounds double and about 2.5 pounds single action. Single action was really that light, almost too light. But with the blowback and fixed barrel, very, very accurate.
.22 is also one of the few rounds allowed to regular Mexican citizens, so it might just be locals helping themselves.
ReplyDeleteThey of course need protection against cartels while illegally crossing into the US.
