A super cool photo

 

A paper here in north Alabama does a  few veteran tributes a couple of times each week. The guy on the right was born in GA back in 1894. I think it would be safe to say that he did some "cowboying" before "jinning up" in the yankee army to fight the dreaded Hun. Read the vague story of this young man .HERE.

  2. Probably had never been more than 20 or so miles from home before leaving for the war. Hard to think about what went through their minds.

    1. I recall hearing several WW2 veterans from my area talking about they had never seen a "city", the ocean, etc. before leaving for the war. One older gentleman told me that he'd never received a letter until the postman walked across the field he was plowing with a mule and handed him his draft notice.
