They looked goofy and acted goofier, but the truth is the super talented band known as Dr. Hook charted songs all through the 70's and into the early 80's. Enjoy
Here is some AM Gold. I had never seen the first one. Ray Sawyer, Chickasaw, Alabama native, can truly yodel.
And Don't forget "Sylvia's Mother"....That one was haunting...I kept thinking that was some guy trying to call his girl before he got shipped off to the Nam.
I always said that very thing about this band, stop looking at them and listen. Their records were really superior to most bands at the time. You forgot "When you're in love with a beautiful woman".
You also overlook " I got stoned and I missed it", and Roland the Roadie, and "Gertrude the Groupie" This group was vastly unappreciated, and I believe never got the respect they deserved and earned. Yes, they were straight up goofy, but they appeared to love their crowds and their craft
Thanks to all for stopping by. I didn't miss any songs by Dr. Hook. If I listed all of the "gooduns", Irish might run me off for taking up so much space! LOL. I simply posted a few of the ones that stood out for me. They were a great band with some really great tunes. When I was younger, I would sometimes get Dr. Hook and the Bellamy Brothers mixed together in my mind (i.e. "When Your In Love With A Beautiful Woman" compared to "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me"). I have been a huge Bellamy Brothers fan for years. PigPen51, you are right. 70's music was some of the best. Birdchaser, I hope you enjoyed your meal. I've never eaten at that particular restaurant, but I hear lots of great things about it.
One of my absolute fav bands of the '70's, I had their Cover of the Rolling Stones album. Still do, AAMOF. Vinyl! Never got to see 'em in concert, sorry I couldn't!
Yeah, the '70's were something else. Especially since I got drafted... USAF, '72 to '76.
Back in 69 I spent three days driving them around Honolulu. Don't remember much of the three days, but I know I had a goooooood time. And heard some great music.
Wow! Look ate the caboose on the girl in the Blue Jeans video! Now THAT is a fine behind. Not the sickening ghetto booty dumptrucks that get passed of as sexy today...
I have most of Dr. Hook's albums. Yes, vinyl. Their treatment of Shel Silverstein's songs is perfect. And "She makes her blue jeans talk" was my favorite MTV video (back when they played music videos).
Hey Jeffrey;

ReplyDelete"You make my pants want to get up and dance", great group, especially compared to a lot of what passes for music these.
ReplyDeleteWent to a great restaurant in Chickasabogue yesterday,Off the Hook Marina and Grill. Can't wait to go again.
ReplyDeleteIf you wonder why people say music was better in the 70's, it's because it was.

ReplyDeleteWell, I have to agree. 70's music was some of the best ever created, especially compared to what is presented these days. 60's was as good IMHO.

I miss the music and the women of the 80's

ReplyDeleteThanks Jeffery, a nice trip back to when music was bitchen, and the girls just look better.
