This song holds so many memories for me. I'm going into my sophomore year (1972) and sitting in my Dads stake bodied Ford Truck headed to a job site in Gahanna. We are stopped for a traffic light. This song is playing on the radio. I can still smell his coffee and his pipe as he puffed away. He owned a small business as a concrete contractor. New residential work was our niche. He taught me so much but I did not appreciate it until some years later. It will be 2 years this May 24th since he passed away. He was my hero. I miss you and love you Dad!!
Yeah, I'm old, so is that guy. Older than me obviously. I'll tell you what, I remember when that song first came out. I liked it. Then they played it to death. And kept playing it. It got to the point I couldn't stand to hear it anymore. Along with several other tunes back in those days. Now that "we" are old farts, yeah it's nice to hear it again. Once.
We played this song in our pep band for high school basketball games, when I was in Jr.High. Our band director was a cool woman. She demanded excellence from us, even through her baton at kids who were screwing up. But she would laugh and have fun with us, too.
Hell, just mention the wayback machine.
ReplyDeleteCrappy pop is timeless.

Easy to replicate that singing voice. Pinch and close your nose while singing.
