The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists is moving the Doomsday Clock up
to 100 seconds to midnight - a metaphor for the end of the world - in a
recognition of growing threats from nuclear war, climate change and
disinformation.
The clock had been at two minutes to midnight since 2018. Now, the
looming dangers are captured in a smaller unit in a testament to the
need for urgent action, the Bulletin said Thursday, as its president
warned of influential leaders who "denigrate and discard the most
effective methods for addressing complex threats."
that clock has been within 5 minutes of midnight as long as it has existed. this removes the element of panic for me.
ReplyDeleteStill an order of magnitude greater than my givadamn meter.
ReplyDeleteTalk about disinformation...
ReplyDeleteThey're just trying to seem relevant again. If they ever were.
ReplyDeleteDrama queens much??
ReplyDeleteThe BAS has been trying to round up the lemmings and herd them to the panic cliff since 1947. Now, with climate panic added! It just proves that the best way to separate the gullible from their hard-earned dollars is to panic them. Who would have suspected that Chicken Little would grow up to be an atomic scientist!
ReplyDeleteThere was a op-ed by one of the guys that started this, basically saying it means nothing anymore because it being used for policy disagreements and not purely technical/scientific reasons. His recommendation was that they stop it.
