In The Days Of My Youth....
Does anyone remember these awesome crackers?
I had a bowl of chowdah over the weekend and it brought back memories of my grandmother
spreading butter on a Crown Pilot then breaking it up in her homemade chowdah.
Good stuff.
According to WIKI, they were discontinued.
You can still get them in a #10 can as survival food. Look up pilot crackers.

Hi ex, are those the Mountain House ones?
DeleteYes. I also used to buy them from mredepot till there shipping rates up north went obscene.

I've got a case of the Mountain House ones. Forget where I bought them, but shipping was free, so I stocked up on the Pilot Bread, Mac and Cheese, and Beef Stew.
DeleteMountain House is really good food, but a bit pricey.
We used Oyster crackers six-sided little crackers. Try looking for Garibaldi cookies:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garibaldi_biscuit in yor local stores. Or Canada Dry Golden Ginger Ale.
ReplyDeleteOr Helvagood Clam dip.
Apparently, The Vermont Country Store has a substitute, but it got mixed reviews.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! I remember them and my grandmother did the same with the butter. I don't remember them functioning for any other purpose than with chowder.
