How I Fill The Chip Barrels

The parts we are making start as 7/8 thick by 6 inch wide 6061 aluminum about 12 inches long.
Each one weighs about 5 pounds.

This is a quick video of  the beginning of the roughing cycle. The finished part is less than 1 pound.

I get to listen to this... ALL... FRIKKEN..... DAY.....

  1. Wow! Only a 20% yield! What do you do with all the scrap?

  2. A "20% yield" would mean (to me, anyway) that only 2 out of 10 finished parts were good.

I'm sure Irish can come up with the correct term for an 80% raw to finished product......

  3. That`s cool! I work in a printing factory. Talk about noise. (I can`t do ear-plugs)

    1. One of our customers was a large printing shop back when I was a Project Engineer for an Industrial Controls company.

They had a couple of HUGE presses used for litho printing of cereal boxes, mac and cheese boxes, and large posters.

When all of the presses were running it was quite noisy, and I used to wear my hearing protectors.

It was amazing to see huge sheets of card stock come flying off the press printed for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese!
