The sharks alone should keep you out of the water. As far as the shark being eaten, there's always the possibility the tag fell off and was too enticing of a lure for some fish to have for breakfast. I know, the other theory is more dramatic, but such a large predator would require a lot of food and I doubt it would remain unseen if it got hungry.

Here in California the only thing that scares the Great Whites off the continental shelf like that are pods of Killer Whales. Got anything like that in Australia?
