One of my Uncles flew over 50 missions in these amazing bombers. He told me several stories when they lost at one engine and sustained damages so severe the bomber was NOT supposed to be able to stay in the air when checked by physics and actual sustained damages.
That particular B-17 is an E or F model. You can tell by the curved rather than "notched" forward part of the tail (notched tail was on the earlier C model). It is NOT a G model because the G's had the remote controlled chin turret. The crews had a love/hate relationship with the chin turret. They loved the forward firepower but didn't like the slower speed of the plane due to the increased drag. [/geek off]
