♫♪♫ Behind Scenes In the making of 10cc's I'm Not In Love ♫♪♫

Phil sent this over last night.

It is quite amazing the musicianship and dedication these guys showed

in the production of this song.

For the record, I realize some may HATE! this song. Some haven't heard it for a while and some

Love this song.  This isn't about the song itself. It's about the 70's and the music and what

these artists worked on for weeks or months to MAYBE have a hit or more possibly a flop.

Watch it for the technical aspect of putting this all together. Or, maybe the drugs were that good.

  1. I always thought this was one of the great songs of that era. The opening and the instrumental portions carry you to another place that are just spectacular IMHO.Never knew how it was made. Thanks.

PS FYI The official "I'm not in Love" video on Zoo Tube segue's into Carol King's also very good "It's to Late" with Danny Kootch on guitar.

  2. Very interesting video, especially as I have been enamored with this song since it first came out. It was obviously very intricately engineered, but I really had no idea to what degree until now. As for the whispered, female lyric, I always thought it was "Be poised and quiet", not "Big boys don't cry".

This is a really amazing piece played through a high-fidelity system! Thanks for sharing.

  3. I was astounded at how much technology they used and the attention to minute details they had. Also the perseverance

  5. I had no clue of the complexity of this song.
    A great breakdown.

  6. I'm just glad to be old enough that, in the final days of my earthly existence, when the soundtrack to my life plays, it includes talent like this. Also (in NO particular order, & certainly NOT a complete list) … Elvis, McCartney/Lennon, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Elton John, Eagles, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson etc.

At NO point shall the likes of Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber or any random retarded rapper be heard …

Thanks for sharing the background story to this unique song!

  7. It was overplayed, and that's probably why many grew to dislike it.

  10. I was spoiled by all of the bootleg remixed albums sold in mall record stores in the 90's. It was as if they were making professional mixtapes and selling them as new albums...

  11. What a treat that was. The presenter has exactly the right tone and approach; calm, respectful, and knowledgable.
The song is a great example of innovation and experimentation done without a guarantee of success, just begun for the sake of getting it right.
Fil with Wings of Pegasus explores similar vocal constructions all while exposing the rightly-hated autotune and processing so common in todays plastic world of pretend excellence.

  12. Very well done and interesting video. I had heard of some of that but nowhere near that level of detail.

  13. This song was loaded as a preset on the Ensoniq Mirage sampler. It blew my mind. Then they did the string arrangement from Eleanor Rigby! What is this alien device? It displays an alchemy never before beheld! Then everything was sampled and it just sucked.

  14. It’s amazing what could be done with analog tape and multi-tracking. I hadn’t seen this guy before so I’ll keep an eye out for him. Rick Beato often does breakdowns of songs. It makes you appreciate what goes into recording.

  15. Back when it was made from talent, I'm off to revisit the song with new awe in the making of it...

  17. The vocal loops - add keyboard, you have a mellowtron. But what they did sure sounds better.
