On the Tommy Gun meme: The one in the picture is most likely a 1921A model. First introduced in 1921 and made by Colt Firearms. The '21A version cost -$200- and the '21AC version (not pictured) cost -$225-. The AC version cost more because of the Cutts compensator on the end of the barrel. The compensator was added to supposedly reduce the climb of the gun while firing. The A/AC models also had a cyclic rate of fire approaching 1,000 rounds per minute. The 1928/1928A1 versions were slowed to a more manageable rate of approximately 600 rounds per minute.
That first one - used to be that occasionally someone at work will yell out in the control room "Squeal like a pig" and everyone will go WEEEEE and then we all laugh. Now I say that and all the younguns just stare at me like I'm retarded. Ain't no one got respect for the classics anymore.
There was a recent article about #23. His reserve chute deployed on exiting the plane but he was able to cut the lines and landed safely with the main chute.
I went skydiving once back in the late 80s. The instructor told us if anyone accidentally opened their chute before the jump, they were going out the door of the plane. Nothing could stop that.
