Famous bourbon distillery suffers 'substanial' damage from flooding in Kentucky's capital
The Buffalo Trace Distillery is located along the banks of the Kentucky River in Frankfort. The river crested Monday at 48.2 feet, the second highest in Frankfort's history by less than an inch.
Was there in February and we did the Colonel e.h Taylor tour and they took you down through the old EH Taylor building and on the wall it had Mark's of all the floods throughout the years So this is not something new.
Thought you were a scotch man? Back in my professional days I always had two or three bottles of Buffalo Trace handy in a gun safe since it was empty after the yachting accident.
I kinda have a weakness for Bushmills, so I either keep it damn near under lock and key, or just don't get it very often. Otherwise, I'd probably put a baby-bottle nipple on it and tilt back in the fetal position for the weekend.
As long as the barrels didn't wash away, they'll be fine. They won't be in water long enough the nasty river water to soak through to the whiskey inside. The wood will dry out from the outside-in, and all will be well. They can market it as "Kentucky Flood Batch" and recoup their losses down the road.
