For me, this is one of those songs that always gets turned up on the radio.....
"How Long" is a 1974 song by the British group Ace from their album Five-A-Side. It reached No. 3 in the US and Canadian charts, and No. 20 in the UK chart. Lead singer Paul Carrack composed the song upon discovering that bassist Terry Comer had been secretly working with other bands. Comer returned to Ace in time to play on the song.
yeah, and they played the shit out of it too back then. gave up on radio in 75 myself. dave in pa.

Just a far better time musically than what passes on the airwaves now
ReplyDeleteIt’s the difference between the perfect ribeye and the dump you take the next day
Paul Carrack played with Squeeze, Roxy Music and Mike and the Mechanics. An incredibly prolific career.
ReplyDeletedidn't he re-release it when he was with Squeeze, and again solo in the 90's?
ReplyDeletePaul Carrack has some great pipes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, one of my favorites. At the time I assumed it was written for some lyin', cheatin' skank girlfriend, because, reasons, ya follow? Still fits, though.
ReplyDeleteWait. You mean it's NOT written for some lyin', cheatin' skank girlfriend? Had me fooled!
DeleteGreat tune, but I believe this video was lipsynced and over dubbed. Original version was a studio session with tracks added and sounds tweaked. You can't get that on a stage.
ReplyDeleteThis song was on the juke box at a cafe on my first duty station on Camp Pendleton. I played it every time I was there, and when I hear it I go back there in my mind.
ReplyDeleteDidn’t their drummer spontaneously combust? No, no, wait, If I recall correctly, it was a bizarre gardening accident.
ReplyDeleteAll drummers spontaneously combust.
DeleteWhat is it about music that can take you back - if you are open to the concept, and let it happen the effect is mysterious and magical.
ReplyDeleteOne of my go-tos. Great tune.
ReplyDeleteWatch the re make update on YouTube. UNREAL GOOD
