I guess the good and the bad was they were hidden in our day, but still there in lower numbers. It’s in your face now. The open recruiting of replacements and the fad nature of the behavior are other negatives.
In the early 60's I was a transmission repair guy. My boss sold three versions of transmissions (it was cheaper than a rebuild of the customers transmission). We would get them from the junkyard. The cheapest one was simply ragged off. It was taken from junked cars that were not running and it had a 30 day warranty. The next cheapest was painted silver. It was taken from junked cars that were running and we could determine that the transmission was working, it had a 90 day warranty. The most expensive was a rebuilt with new parts and totally cleaned up, it was painted gold and had a one year warranty. Our shop wall looked just like your picture. I R&R'ed so many transmissions I could do it in a couple of hours, 3 to 4 a day when we were busy. I preferred the rebuilding though, it felt like skilled work compared to a simple R&R.
When trannie fluid meant ATF-4 instead of vaseline.

ReplyDeleteYeah, and the new generation of trannies are pretty much a shiftless bunch that aren't useful for much.
ReplyDeleteRemember when a tranny would be killed in a back alley and found in a burning dumpster?
ReplyDeleteThey ought to bring that idea back.
In Honduras, it's "open season" on trannies. Many have been executed.
DeleteThey are all mental.
