Alabama: 21'-3" live giant captured and then escapes (THE JACKSON COUNTY GIANT the most wonderful creature ever seen in Alabam)

Periodically, I will wander off to some "Bigfoot website" and particularly search Wm. B. Bankhead National Forest/Lewis Smith Lake.  I've been an avid hunter, hiker, camper, horseback and motorcycle rider, in this area most of my life. I have also spent a lot of time on the lake boating/fishing. I have paddled a lot of creeks and the river in a canoe.  I have never seen or heard anything that offers proof that Sasquatch-Bigfoot creatures roam these woods. I have heard some good stories. One such story is from a very good friend of mine. I have no doubt if he was given a polygraph test and asked about his encounter with a "Bigfoot" creature, he'd pass with flying colors. This guy doesn't lie and I truly believe he saw something and he believes he saw a "Bigfoot".  Of course, there are many other such stories. I had read about stories of monsters, etc. in Alabama, but had never heard of the Jackson County Giant. If you are intrigued by such things, click the link and read the newspaper article from 17 July 1877. Click HERE to read it all.

  3. You would think so. Alabama to this day is a pretty "wild" state in regards to timbered woods. Communities, towns, and cities are intermingled with vast fairly remote areas. Jackson County (where this story is supposed to have taken place) is very wooded, remote, and rough mountainous terrain. I bet over a hundred years ago is scarcely populated. As I said in the opening, I've never seen or heard anything that would make me think a "monster" such as this or a Bigfoot exists. Check out these two videos. This supposedly took place in Afghanistan and a "giant" was killed. You will have to judge for yourself.

  4. Glad you had the guts to post this. There is more evidence of these humanoids than people know. Lot's of reputable accounts from old timers in my neck of the woods in western NC.

As far as a hunter shooting one, they have (Sierra kills). Insofar as more being shot; they are more human than anything else, hence the name "wild man" and most hunters are not murderers. I know of one account relayed to me by an old timer's son here where Dad lowered his rifle letting "the creature" run off because it looked "too human".

Also, kudos to your buddy as most people are afraid to broach the subject for fear of being labeled as crazy.

    1. Thanks Robin. I know exactly what you mean about people being reluctant to come forward. A fellar I was turkey hunting with a few years ago owns a large grocery store in a rural area. While we were hunting the "Bigfoot" subject came up and I asked him if he believed. His reply was, "I don't know", but I feel sorry for people who believe they have seen something". He went on to say that in rural areas like where we live and everyone knows everyone, if a person told their story they might risk being labeled as a "kook". That is when he told me a story one of his employees who had worked for him for years. The employee had entrusted him with the story where she claimed to have seen a female and adolescent apelike creature pillaging through her garbage bin. She had never told another soul except for my friend. My friend told me he believed her and that a story like she told was absolutely from the heart. As for my buddy, I've encouraged him to to tell his story to some of the researchers and he since has. I'll try to post more on this subject in the future. Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Hey, my pleasure Jeffrey. I try to stop by your site when I can so keep up all the good work here! Maybe sometime I'll write that book I've been threatening to about some of my weirder experiences in the mountains here.. For now I'll just say there's a lot about this world we don't know and don't understand.
Here's hoping Y'all have a Merry Christmas season!

    1. Thanks. Read this story about the "hairy man". This is supposed to have taken place about three miles NW of where I live. The other two stories I mentioned earlier are withing a four mile radius as well.

  6. Thanks for the link. Just as an FYI, I was at a conference in Huntsville a few years ago and met two other woodsmen there, one from Sand Mountain and the other living around Mobile. Both had had encounters with the "wild man" that they had never much talked about. I usually bring up a few "black panther" stories relating to another animal that is often sighted but doesn't "exist" in North America. Once people know you're open minded you never know what they may have to tell you.

Another FYI if you have the time. This is a link to a reddit forum related to the subject and the moderator, or one of the moderators, is from your neck of the woods I believe and seems quite reasonable.
